New motor...grinding noise while trying to start
you don't need to shim a stock starter. The mounting block is manufactured to be mounted and done with.
Are the teeth on the starter chewed? If so it could be hitting that point and slipping. It also sounds like an arc of some sort is hapeening when your turning it over.
Just bolt it up and have someone turn it over with you under it with the inspection (tranny) plate off. This will allow you to see what is going on when it engages.

nah didn't have a chance. too many wrecks in atlanta so traffic was worse than it usually is. try again tonight. I have next week off so I was looking forward to driving this thing soon
I can't believe it...was it really this simple?? the cable for the theft dterent relay that goes to the starter some how got the insulation split and was touching the pcm ground. cut...splice...moved the pcm ground further away just in case. turned the key and starter turned the motor no problem(had pcm batt fuse pulled). now I just gotta put the exhaust back together and clean up tools to try and fire this thing up soon
