FAQs for Mobil 1 Extended Performance

What is the difference between Mobil 1® Extended Performance and the currently available Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with boosted level of protection and performance. These formulations with the Advanced SuperSyn System contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 36 percent more anti-wear additives, and 37 percent more cleaning agents than the current Mobil 1.

Is it true about synthetics leaking easier? I am planning on running nothing but syn and maybe swiching it over to all my vehicles but have been worried about this.

I think I'll try this in my Maxima.... I drive 15K miles in roughly 3-4 months, and I don't drive for a living that's only the milage I put on the Maxima too, but I'll give it a try, it could deffinately save me some money.

Yes its true. IT doesnt cause leaks though, it can make a leak which was gummed up by grime or oil or whatever before (So that its not currently leaking) start to leak after switching to synthetic.

But if you ask me, its a leak you already had and should fix anyhow

Re: new mobile 1 oil 5k 7500 and 15k miles between changes

I went about 6500 miles on my last oil change. Thats with German Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic. I'm going to keep it around the 5-6000 mile range for piece of mind. After so many miles my mind gets foggy when I want to remember the last time i did it so thats the max. Why pay and extra $25 an oil change if your not going to use it twice as long? Imagine, in Canada, the owners manual says to change the oil every 3000kms. Thats like what? 2400miles

Says 5000 km for oil changes if your car first into the "if any one of these are true" category.

You are correct that I was referring to normal driving conditions, which I believe almost all personal vehicles are operated under.

Someone said something about Blackstone Labs that's a good place to name, decent prices. An even better name to drop would be Terry Dyson (who offer's an interpretation of the reasults from blackstone) a really nice guy which I've had the pleasure of speaking to on the phone, the guy really knows his stuff.

Re: new mobile 1 oil 5k 7500 and 15k miles between changes

3K mile changes started when oils were inferior to todays dino oils you had carberators dumping raw fuel into the oil and the engines materials and machining were nowhere near where we are today. My b-bodies recommend up to 7500 as long as not severe service and that is the same bottomend as your f-bodies. If you want to dump your oil at 3K fine but to argue that it is necessary is PURE IGNORANCE crossing the line to stupidity if you are unwilling to learn about the fact you are wrong. Yes there are some conditions where 3K might be warranted but that would be like short tripping AND dirty conditions. If you guys beat on your cars like you claim you must be getting them up to a good operating temp so scratch off the short tripping, occassional dirt roads are not going to hurt unless you are always following someone closely or have a air filtration problem(K&N isn't half as good as they want you to believe).

Hey 96capricemgr, perhaps its best to teach others by showing them (oil analysis for example) instead of calling them "stupid" and "ignorant". We are all stupid and ignorant at one time or another. And it's the smart ones that realize these quality’s never leave them.

I think I'll try 10k miles in the maxima now. I was doing 5k with the mobil one. As for the blown TA, the vortech manual recommends changes every 3k and I am comfortable with that. Thats about twice a year for the TA and three times a year for the Max.

Re: new mobile 1 oil 5k 7500 and 15k miles between changes

Everyone is ignorant at some point that is just a lack of knowledge and not meant as an insult, I said when they argue the wrong side of the point that is stupid as in a REFUSAL TO LEARN, there is a difference.
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi I have posted this link many times before, it is an invaluable resource for all things lubricant and additive for cars and most other stuff as well be it light duty diesel, lawn mowers whatever.
Flip with the blower sharing oil that changes things the engine oil now has more to do than just the engine which will be more wear on it, the 3K mile change is being stated because it is safe, with oil analysis you could likely prove to yourself that given a good oil you can go farther, but 3K changes won't hurt anything and the money spent is a whole lot less than what could happen to the blower and motor. Given that the centirifugal blowers don't seem to last like the roots style I would want the oil it is using drained regularly just to try to keep any debris from it from doing damage elsewhere should it begin to go.
Them recommending a 3K interval with the blower is also just further support that 3K is overkill in an NA application.
