Hi everyone I am a new member here and I am looking for some upgrades for my 93 LT1 Z28. First off I have noticed there are some things different about the 93 from other LT1s. Can soemone help me with this. Second I would like to do some upgrades but I am not sure what would be good. Some of the ones I was looking at where headers and cat back exhaust. remove my cat with an off road pipe. Bored out throttle body, air foil, better injectors, edelbrock intake, K&N cool air induction kit and a hyper chip. The motor is supposed to be 305HP stock and I am not looking to get 100 Hp out of these addons I was a GM tech for 8 years so I have experience but I was done about the time the LT1 came out. Any info you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated I am on several other boards for my toys like hayabusa.org and www.rx1.info for my sled and the people that try the stuff are usually the ones that know the most about what really works and what doesnt. I may consider a small supercharger and a cam eventually but I think that may be more than I want to do to the stock motor.
Thanks the posts move so fast here that you have to search for your own. I am just not sure what would work best with my car. My buddy just got his Mustang back from Larocca a guy in NJ and he got 667 HP at the wheels I know I am not going to spend that much money but I would like to get alittle more than stock out of her.
There is a HUGE thread that covers the differences between the 93's and the later years:

Stock HP on the 93-95 LT1's in the F-Body is 275HP. No exceptions.
Among the things you listed:
-Cold air intake - Essential as the first mod.
-Cat-back exhaust - Essential
-Headers - Good "next" step
-Cat/off road pipe - Not a lot of HP to be gained... the stock cat flows well.
-Bored out throttle body - marginal gains. Save it until you do things like 1.6 roller rockers, heads, cam
-Better injectors - the 93 has 22# injectors. They should be good with the mod's you mentioned. Won't need to upgrade until you do heads/cam. Then you need a new chip for the ECM.
-Edelbrock intake - I actually saw one of these back in 1995, but to my knowledge they never actually produced them. Reason is that the stock LT1 intake is fine, even with mildly ported heads.
-Hyper chip - go directly to a custom mail order tuner. There is about 15HP just sitting there waiting to be grabbed by leaning out the power enrichment (PE) mode A/F ratios. Hypertech stuff tends to be very generic, and conservative.
Some other ideas:
-Until you can swap in a cam, consider a set of 1.6 roller rockers
-Bypass the coolant on the throttle body... good for a quick 6HP.
-Consider steeper rear gears...
You also might want to mention whether its an automatic (A4) or a 6-speed (M6). The A4's respond well to a higher stall convertor. If you have a car that left the factory without the "performance axle" you could have 2.73's with the A4... instead of the 3.23's... would definitely need an upgrade.

'93 owners have a website just for us, it's www.speeddensity.org
I would start with gears first, then either a CAI or catback exhaust. I remember I was gonna stop modding my car after headers! Now I'm about to drop in a new 355

Thanks for all the good info a couple more questions from what I have been seeing.
1. I saw an intake manifold I thought was an edelbrock but maybe it was factory bored out for the new throttle body and ported to match the LT1 heads witch I think are different from the LT 4 heads with some powder coating done does this seem more like what I found.
2. The air foil is this just one of those take your money kind of things
3. Can I replace the Speed Density setup with MAF and would it be to my advantage like on the Mustangs
4. Can I replace the fuel rails and intake from an LT4 and if so is it better
I am sure there will be more dumb questions to follow but I love my Camaros

Is the link for the manifold on Ebay. It does say I would need the newer fuel lines and to port match the intake to LT1 heads does this mean the LT4 heads are different

for the LT4 intake you will need a '94-'95 fuel rail, and there is something different with the heads, I can't remember but someone on here will know. I'm having a hard time finding a newer fuel rail too.

Stock TB is 48mm. Stock ports on the intake manifold, LT1 or LT4 are 52mm. So no boring needed for a 52mm TB. You would have to bore for a 58mm TB, but not really required for what you are tlaking about.
Edelbrock just came out with some LT1 heads, that aren't really all that great. Maybe they came out with a new manifold too... but I know they had a design back in 1994/95 and they showed it at a few shows, but never made it.
As far as LT4 vs. LT1, the intakes aren't really interchangeable. You would have to machine an interference off an LT4 intake to bolt it onto LT1 heads, and then you wouldn't have any benefits, because the LT4 intake isn't any different than the LT1, except for some extra metal on the roof of the intake ports that allows it to be ported for ported LT4 heads.
2. The air foil is this just one of those take your money kind of things
Yes.
Go to the WS6.com website and look at his dyno tests. Underdrive pullies and air foils don't do much.
3. Can I replace the Speed Density setup with MAF and would it be to my advantage like on the Mustangs
You would have to swap in a 94 PCM, a 94 wiring harness, and add the MAF sensor. Then you would have issues with the fact that the 94 PCM tries to control the tranny, and if you are running an A4, you don't have a 4L60E, so you would have some diagnostics to program out. I really don't think there is any reason that a 93 speed-density can run as fast as a 94+ mass-air setup. You just have to have you chip updated a little more frequently.
4. Can I replace the fuel rails and intake from an LT4 and if so is it better
The stock LT1 rails will support huge HP. Your "problem" is the fact that the 93 has rails and intake (top configuration) that is totally different than the later LT1's, because of the batch fire injectors. To my knowledge there is no advantage in an "LT4 fuel rail".... I run 800HP through the stock rails, with a minor plumbing change... a friend of mine made 1,125flywheel on the stock rails with the same minor modification.

You guys are awsome and fast. I registered over to speed density so I can check out that stuff too. I have to decide how far and how much I am willing to spend with out getting into the cam and lower end of the motor. It was my mothers and she only put 32,000 on it my dad has smoked the tir4es and raced his vette with it messing around but it really has never been abused.
you either will spend at least $10,000 on that car or you wont spend any at all. the only way you wont spend any is if you get rid of it or stop reading this board
before you know it you'll want a 383 stroker, then a 396, then turbos or supercharger.
like they said, gears, Cold Air, exhaust (headers are a must for scaring mustangs), then later you can heads, intake, cam.
the LT4 intake only works with the LT4 heads, they are matched to go together like twins. many people have told me you cant put an LT4 intake on without those heads. there is a good upgrade to an LT4 on several websites thats a package deal (425+ hp)with LT4 heads, LT4 intake, and GM Performance Hotcam, which is a decently mild cam that will sound fairly stock. that package is a good deal, plus you can port the heads later and make hideous HP. add that package to some other mods and you'd be looking at around 500 flywheel, which is my personal goal, although i might not use that package

After only 2 days of research (dont tell my boss) I think for now I am going to go with the following and please make whatever recommendations for good parts I dont want to end up with junk that is worse or no gain over stock.
1. Cat back exhaust I have seen somestuff on staying away from flowmaster but what is decent
2. Bore out my throttle body to 52mm it is only 150 bucks who does it
3. I have seen something on a part umber for a elbow is it necesary if I go with the K&N cold air induction is there one better?
4. 1.6 rr I saw a set on speeddensity.com for 250.00 put on but not run if not a good deal were do I get decent ones
5. Bypass coolant on Throttle body I am sure there is a post on this I can find to do it correctly and as I understand all you need is some hardware to block it off.
6. Headers I like shorty headers who would you recommend are shorties not as good as long tube I am not looking to drag race all the time just decent street strip. who makes some good ones
I maybe looking for some of this used in the classifieds or ebay but not all I am not cheap but not rich either just would like to get the best bang for my buck.

I hear you Ryan I also have a 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa modded out somewhat and chromed its mean. They say in Guiness its the worlds fastest production motorcycle 198 MPH out of the box. I added some mods including a power commander which you plug your laptop into and adjust the fuel curve every 500 RPMs. IT shoudl run high 9s in the quarter. I just like to go fast...........

i dont know about porting the stock TB you might just buy an Edelbrock 52tb.
if those are Comp Cams Pro Mags that are $250 then thats a good deal, otherwise dont do that, you can find Pro Mags (best) for cheaper somewhere else. dont forget you will need better valve springs (someone correct me)
there are tons of install guides for that TB bypass its very simple. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html that one is kind of to the point, if you need more details do a search for it
as far as CAI i think the SLP looks the best because its painted and not plastic, although the K&N FIPK isnt bad either. same gains, just get the one that looks the most attractive (SLP)
