New Magnaflow Design?

New Magnaflow Design?

Just got a magnaflow (part #15620) and i have a few questions. I have read on here numerous times that 2/3 of the exhaust is directed out of the passenger side without going through the muffler. I saw pictures on here also that showed how where the exhaust came into the muffler, it sort of made a u-turn straight out the passenger side. From looking into my muffler, it doesnt have that. it goes in about half way, then it splits evenly to the passenger and driver side. I was just wondering if they changed the design or if i somehow got the wrong muffler?

Im pretty sure it has always been that way. I think it would be a lot louder if it wasnt.

Mine doesn't even seem to be loud as stock- idle AND WOT

these pics were from another thread on here of how the magnaflow flow path "should be"
I redid this pic. the red is the how it "should be". the blue is how mine is

mine doesnt have this "deflector" in it

if you look in mine, you can see straight through the driver side exit and passenger side.

I don't think it really matters.
In fact, it was probably a design change due to the only complaint I have ever heard about the 15620:
The old design made it so that 80% of the exhausts volume came from the passenger side. The new design might be an attempt to fix that situation.
It wouldn't think that it would change the functionality or sound of the muffler.

Well If its all goig out hte passengers side and not throught the muffler completely a defenite increase in volume would be heard.

Your mag is a quite as stock? lol are you kidding? Mine is defeinetly louder then stock when ideling. And on WOT it comes alive like 4x louder then stock. Maby the new design is quiter I duno. If so then send it back and request an old one or something.

Call em up and ask. Best way to find out is from the source I had mine put on less than a year ago and it has the U on the right hand side of your first pic (the red).

What sold me on the muffler was the 2/3's being directed right back out ;D The less exhaust flowing on the left side doesnt bother me a bit.

i emailed them and they DID change the flowpath. here is the message that i got:

Thanks for your contact and for purchasing MagnaFlow! We did redesign the internals of that muffler and you got the newer one. It may be slightly quieter but after the break-in period(about 400 miles), it should get slightly louder. It is definitely not more restrictive. If anything, it flows a little better than the old design. The reason we changed it is because of the not-quite-equal sound and flow distribution created by the u-shaped baffle, which you describe.
