New magnaflow catback seems a bit too loud..ideas..
I just put a magnaflow catback on my 96 vert.It sounds ok at idle and not too bad cruising around at under 2500 or so but gets loud a bit too quick for me I think. Now its brand new so not sure if it will get a bit louder after some miles.I left the stock cats on the car and don't have headers.
I have a couple ideas to mellow it down..guess could maybe put a bullet muffler in the intermediate pipe or mabye take out the cats and install bullet mufflers in there.Would bullet mufflers instead of cats quiet down the car a bit more.We have noise police here now and the allowed db is not very high.Doubt the car would pass currently.I have a b and b on my 99 and it don't seem to roar near as loud as the magnaflow when floored.
I like the look of the system, muffler and pipes. I also noticed the
tailpipes have a hole in bottom..is there some sort of silencer that could be installed in the tips..maybe they sell one.It looks like hole in my apexi exhaust on my turbo talon and that has a silencer option.
Anyway else think the same. Now don't get me wrong I like a loud exhaust sometimes too.I put an electric cutout on my 99 and sometimes open it a bit or a lot depending on mood ,traffic, cop situation etc.I was planning on installing one in the vert as well but the way the magnaflow sounds right now it seems almost as loud as my cutout in my 99.
There are no leaks exhaust was done professionally.

i run edelbrock shorties to a car sound high flow cat with the magnaflow cat back and it never got any quieter. it is the same today as it was a year ago when it was installed. mine is responsible at low rpms but loud when you get on it. i love it.

Try some Autozone 3 inch stainless tips.
They are mini resonators and slide right inside the Magnaflow tips.
Put a short sheet metal skrew in to keep it tight if need be.
A bullet in the I pipe will also help keep the noise down.
I'm 45 and the loud got old fast in my vert so I put a Moroso spiral Twister bullet from jegs in my I pipe and along with the tips my car is almost as quiet as stock.
Purrs real nice and balanced at cruise especially with the top down.
S/C is going in this week so that should take care of any minor power loss from quieting down the exhaust.

Thanks greatly 2cub49.We both have verts so you would understand in a hartop car likely the magnaflow is not as loud.
Also I am 46 so also am getting a bit more intolerant of things but
do regularly cruise with the cutout open quite a bit on my 99 taws6.
I will try to find those resonators or something similar. We have no autozones up here.Might have to get some of the net but likely will find a similar thing here to try.The tips have those holes so should be simple to insert a screw or drill hole thru resonator inserts.
Also bullet is another idea or if resonator tips work can always take them out if get the need for it to be loud again.
So with one or both should get it the way I like it.As said it looks good and seems good quality. They should just offer resonator or silencer inserts themselves like my turbo talon apexi catback.
It s a good idea nowadays.
Thanks again for your help.
Your supercharger should be awesome your car sounds great.
Overdrive eh..wow..

Hey I'm from Toronto Canada originally so maybe Canadian tire or Performance Improvements has what you need.
Here's a pic of a tip like the Autozone ones on EBay.
I think they're like 20.00 new at Autozone.
Yes my GV OD makes the 3.73 into 2.91 so I get the best of both.

Double check and triple check that there are no places that the catback is touching car other than the exhaust hangers. Especially look around the rear axle area.
I have the Hooker catback which isn't supposed to be very loud, but it was quite loud when I first installed it. It was caused by the I-pipe hitting a couple of places.(where the I-pipe goes over the axle erea, and the top of the I-pipe hitting the body near the axle.) Now that I fixed it, it's great!
