new lt1 crate 383 in summit?

noticed that Recon is offering a 383 LT1 crate motor in summit now for only $6k
2bolt block, AFR 190's, and a 224/230 cam. says it has steel crank/rods, and forged pistons. that would make it a nice canidate for some n2o shots...wonder what brand the internals are?
what do you think this crate motor would put out with your typical intake and longtubes and tuning? seems like 224/230 cam is a bit on the mild side for a 383 isn't it?
think it would put out 425hp?
$6K doens't seem bad if the internals are good, specially since you're getting AFR's.

Well the price isn't that bad, the one comment I would want to make is about Recon though. I sold those motors for 2 years and it seemed that we had a lot of returns on them for varous things. These were on thier factory rebuild blocks and not a custom job like this LT1 crate motor.

what was it that was going bad? bearings? gaskets? components?
the nice thing about those is i'm pretty sure there isn't a core charge required, like places such as nu-tek or cmotorsports require.
Recon's website, they don't list the LT1 yet, but i don't think the site is up to date.

I would rather have 4bolt splayed mains, and Scoggin-Dickey has all forged 4bolt splayed 383/396 shortblocks assembled for like $4200. Or maybe one from Nu-Tek or another reputable engine shop, would make me feel safer just my 50 cents.

Mr. Z28 73/97 i hear ya on that, it's just nice that these are long blocks, with AFR heads and forged internals. and there is no core charge so you could turn around and sell your block for a couple hundred if it's in good shape (or keep it as backup..lol).
the set of heads and things like that which aren't included in most shortblocks would make up the differance in price. kindda.
it's just a nice alternative to an all-out race built motor, but better than a factory stock crate lt1 (if they are even available).
