new lifters or no?

new lifters or no?

i bought a xe 224/230 and just curious if i should by some new lifters? the car has 111,000 miles on

With that many miles, you shouldn't even think about using the old lifters. I would recommend Comp Rs.

Yeah you should propably replace them. But what # of miles would be the right amount to change them? 50,000? 60,000? I'd like to know

Yeah, lifters are a must. I re-used my lifters, only because they had 30,000 original miles on them at the time, and they were in pristine condition.

I re-used mine with 60K and no problems and I have the XE230/236.

Even with replacing lifters with new stock type ones, I had more clatter than I expected when I did my cam/spring swap (tried various preload settings). When I recently had my whole engine out, I decided to replace the lifters again. I put in Comp Rs and there is much less noise. I think the springs were overwhelming the stock type lifters.

this is what Im worried about w/my lifters. I have the 233/239 cam w/612 springs, dave at cms told me they may or may not work. we'll see when I get it back together.

I put a new set of COMP "stock replacement" lifters in mine. They seem to work fine for my little CC305.

yeah, you have a smaller cam, but more importantly, you have the revkit. I told him Id be alright taking off the intake to replace the lifters only if need be. I really want to reuse them to save money for now. Im hoping they will be fine till one day when I get some real heads, then I'll replace them and the timing chain too.

I am bringing this one back from the dead because I just had new stronger high lift springs installed when my car blew a headgasket. I reused the stock lifters, which have 111,000 miles on them and the car makes a lot of noise. The shop tried different amounts of preload and got it as quiet as they could, but they cant get all the noise out. Is this something I can just live with or is it something I need to be really concerned about?

did you get roller rockers? if so then there's some of your noise. they just ARE noisey to an extent. first of all, is your pcm picking it up as knock and retarding timing? if so then you def. need to replace them. if it is really loud, I would be concerned due to what COULD happen should one fail. I still dont have my heads back on the car yet due to soo much goin on at work and side jobs takin up all my free time. anyways, I changed my mind since I was able to do a job in exchange (some cash too) for a set of brand new jethots. so now I have extra money to buy comp Rs I didnt anticipate on having before.
on another note, Ive heard the comp Rs are more noisey then stock lifters? anyone know?
