new here need help badly please

hey guys i just bought a 1995 z28 LT1 and my problem is that sometimes right after a gas fill up i drive out of the pumps and the car backfires then bogs down and doesnt want to go anywhere..puff of smoke and then acts like it is out of gas....then takes about 5 -10 cranks to get it started and then runs rough for 1-2 minutes...and finally acts ok after that...what could be wrong....also the temp gauge just started showing hotter tonight for some reason sitting still...what should i check first....thanks

Have you been letting the fuel level get extremely low before fill ups? Put a fuel pressure gage with a hose on the fuel rail and tape it to the windshield to see what it is doing when the problem occurs.

Is it possible you are serioulsy over filling the tank? You can get fuel into the carbon canister in the rear fender, and instead of air and fuel vapor being pulled through the canister into the engine when the EVAP purge solenoid opens, you could be pulling raw fuel, or air very highly saturated with fuel vapor, causing it to run rich. If it happens on the first start after refueling, it might also indicate the EVAP purge solenoid is stuck open, since it shuoldn't be open at startup.

if your fuel filter was clogged, it would do it all the time not just at fill up. but, if it needs it change it. you will find out the next time you fill up.

Near the rear axle, on the driver's side. It's a small (usually silver) canister hooked into your fuel lines.
