New here, need help
Well, i'm new here and i'm gonna be honest....i've been on Stangnet for a couple of weeks now. I just got a new job, i start next week, making 3-4 times as much as i am now. I'm 18 years old and am looking for a new(er) car. My first car was an '83 camaro with a 305, then i had an '89 firebird with a 305, now i'm driving around a '93 4.0 ranger. I want to go fast! I've been talking to guys about 5.0's for a while now, sounds pretty good except for a couple of things....
#1)you don't get the newer car (new body, low miles, new interior, etc.) in a '91 lx notchback as you would with a '93-'03 trans am.
#2)It just doesn't look as good, don't get me wrong-i love the way the notchbacks look with something like a cowl hood on it but the trans ams with chrome rims and t-tops will turns so many more heads its not even funny.
Now my concern is money, i could buy an older mustang for about 6-7000 and throw maybe 2,000 into it, or i can spend about 10,000-13,000 on a trans am.
I wouldnt get full coverage insurance on an older stang i doubt, but i WOULD on a ta. Thats a difference of $200 a month already, which i don't mind i'm just pointing out the facts.
Can you guys help me or "con" me into a ta. Like i said, i don't want to spend all the money on a new one, i would like to buy a bike come next spring also. I'm looking at lt1's. What is there to do to them? Everybody on stangnet says how its too expensive to mod ta's. Funny thing is a stock lt1 would beat most 5.0's with mods over there, and it looks better doin it. But what all is there to do? I'm an exhaust guy, i even have a flowmaster on my ranger. If i bought a lt1 with stock exhaust, on the way home i would stop at the exhaust shop and throw something on there i gurantee it. But what else? chip and all that? I know that i will get my moneys worth if i bought the trans am, this is kinda what im lookin at...
I can get one like that for about $11,000. Can you guys help me understand that spending twice the money(than a stang), is going to make me twice as happy? thanks, Justin

What do you mean what can you do to a TA? You can do anything you want. Some of the most popular first mods for the F-Body is cold air intake, headers, gears, etc. There's tons of stuff. You'll be very pleased with the LT1.
Get a TA.You wont regret it.You will get a lot more looks in it too.I like the old 5.0's.Still no comparison to a car like mine.(my opinion.)Get some headers and true duals and it will sound every bit as good as a stang. One thing I dont like about stangs is they fall apart quick.I have seen it in person. They are cheaply made.Another thing,it seems like everyone has a stang.Dare to be different.
I don't know where you live, but around here you can get an LS1 (98-02) trans am or z for a couple thousand more, but if the miles are low and it's in good shape it should be worth it. True, they are more expensive to mod than a stang, but a 350 IMO is better than a 5.0 or 4.6 any day. While any car can be made fast with plenty of money, I think you'll have a lot more fun with a ta. You'll know what I mean if you buy one and start killing stangs left and right. Me for instance, I don't have much on my car, but I beat a cobra, and have embarrassed several GT's (i don't even consider the GT's a race).
There's lots of things you can do to a ta. Exhaust, headers, CAI, and the like are what most people usually do first. After that, if you want to get serious put in a cam, some new heads, stroke it, spray it, or supercharge it. There are so many things that can be done to our cars it isn't funny, and the engine has a ton of potential.
While this may have not been the best persuasive speech, I'm sure you won't regret getting a ta. When I was young (14-16) I used to think stangs were the sh@t, but after I rode in an f-body my whole perception changed. I don't know if you've drove one, I assume you have if you're thnking about buying, but drive one, then drive a stang. You'll notice the difference

Yeah bro go for the LT1. I had a 98 Mustang GT that I spent around 4 grand on in add ons, lowering springs, etc. The car alone cost me 13,500. I sold it and bought a 94 Z28. I would rather drive my Camaro than the Mustang. I bought my Z28 for 3450, so keep your eyes open and you should get what you want in your price range. I was looking for about a month and my cash was burning a hole in my pocket, I alomost bought a 1994 5.0. I am so glad I waited and bought the Camaro, it is soooo much faster than my POS, waste of money Mustang. ----AZ28
Oh and by the way, the Camaro has a brand new 6 speed, which is so much cooler IMO than a 5 speed Mustang. Also has a new rearend, headers and full exhaust.

wow, thats awesome you got your car for 3500! Can you tell me a few things about camaro's??? I've been looking at trans ams, how do they relate/differ? What can i expect out of a stock 93-95 z28? I'd imagine all the mods are pretty much the same as on the trans am. But the motors the same? Probably a stupid question, but i don't know anything about camaro's. I like the way they look, maybe a ta a little bit better but still, they are both meaner looking then a mustang. Thanks, Justin
