I would buy a new camaro in a heartbeat, But I'm poor and the lt1 is all I can afford so For some of us poor folks the lt1 is our only chance to go down the track at a decent speed. Who knows Maybe someday the old lt1's will be rare and in demand like the first and second gen's? I'm not planning on selling my lt1 car even if I did happen to win the lotto, I would still keep it. It has earned a warm spot in my heart.

What about in 5 years when all the LS stuff is dirt cheap and something newer is out? I bet you go LSx....

I remember when TPI was the hottest thing on the streets....I wanted one more than anything...and got one, thought she was badass.....You couldn't give me one now.

Technology advances......LT1 tech was great back in the day...but its nothing special now days.

Once the new Camaros are out for a year or so I'll switch to a SB2.2 engine or a steel blocked LS1 myself. Both are cheap to buy now, however this LT1 I have is still fresh.

LT1's had their day in the sun however they are bore limited and yesterday's news.

Lt1's are still competing to Ls1 I read in an article that there is a Lt1 a 383 or 396 will either a turbo or NOS that runs 8's not bad, tells you something. The only thing I hate about my Lt1 is the gas thats about it. Lt1 is a poor mans HP. I'm young and thats all I can afford. And im tired of hearing LS1 makes me so sick. Hype kills a product in so many ways. You expect even more.......................

You can make a 4 cyl. pinto run 8's...its still a pc. of ****.

I hear you...your poor, LT1 is economical to do stuff to and get descent results. Thats great......but there is more advanced stuff out there. Thats all.

I have seen 4 bangers run 8's too. You can make anything fast if you have the bread.I dont so I must drive the old lt1. If ls1's become as cheap as lt1's hell yea I will get one.

No I never say anything nice. Reason is I like to tell the truth and its not always sunshine and lollypops.

I don't want an LS1 either.....I have everything I want.

Glad you have a hot girl and a life...I think we all do.

So a 4 banger running 8's is big bucks but an LT1 isn't? How many LT1's run in the 8's? is it one or two.....and how many 8 secon passes have they run?.....I'm just showing you the light.....and I have yet to see any lollypops or sunshine hoss.

Good luck with your LT1. I been fooling with them for about 14 years now......They run good but there is other stuff that runs better.

So uh....yeah whatever

They are already cheap, you can get into a ls1 for less money than the same power lt1 and still be using factory heads. I felt like a fool putting an LT1 engine in my car this last fall, if I didn't get the deal of a lifetime on the engine I would be sporting a built lsx instead of this stocker.

Oh well, I better sell the 396" longblock I've been working on.

Its funny how you say there garbage and suck and you still have yours. Kinda makes you look bad. No motor sucks unless its a quad4. I beat alot of cars including Ls1 cars that 3 of my friends have and the car runs strong and i beat the **** out of it and has 152,000 miles and runs better then some of the 2000 LS1. Doesn't tick, orginal opti still, original water pump, radiator, paint still looks brand new almost, transmission is mint other then a new 2-3 solenoid, original everything basically. I guess my motor sucks when you punch it from 43-48 and spins them and chirps on my 245, 16 inch tires. Your term of garbage and suck is different in my dictionary. You tell me.

WoW, sounds like you have a wonderful car.

I plan on keeping my car a good while....I don't plan on running an LT1 forever. Mine has lower miles than yours too...only 30k Orig opti....no ticks, I could spin a 245 street tire at 100 mph.....apple and oranges.

I still find the LT1 to be a great motor. I don't understand why there is always such a need for people to call it a POS. It may not be as good as an LSX, but neither are gen 1 SBC's but people find plenty of use for them. There will ALWAYS be something better, face it. It comes down to $$$ though. For a lot of us, it's still cheaper to keep the LT1 for the power levels we are after than to swap an LS1. ****, I didn't keep my LT1 in my impala for sentimental value, I kept it because it was still the easiest and cheapest option to get the power I was looking for.

Im a B body guy (impala, caprice ect...) so they are pig heavy cars, but come on, for full weight 4200 boats the LT1 isn't doing too bad with guys going high 11's on stock bottom ends with hyd roller cams, streetable gears and stall with heads/cam from guys like advanced induction and bolt ons. Ever see that saturday night live skit, the one with uncle jemima's boos? Do what you know! lol. No really, guys spend tons of money on CRAP parts for their LS1 just because the after market makes it. Im sure you have all seen the results of this in mid 3000 pound LSX F bodies that are doing no better than low 11's with built motors while 4200 pound impalas are doing that with their built LT1's and the added weight (and the RIGHT parts). Not that the LSX doesn't have more potential, but the real winners will always be the guys who constantly find out new ways to tweak their existing setups. The guys who figure out which parts just have a good name and which parts are actually good.

With the right knowledge, you can build a pretty fast LT1 for a pretty low budget price and have more power than most of us will need. An all motor, daily drivable LT1 can be built for 525fwhp no problem for pretty cheap. A blown LT1 can be made for 700whp with no crazy exotic parts (not cheap either, but neither would an LSX F/I motor making that kind of power). Isn't that enough for most of us? The only way for an LSX motor to be cost effective moreso than an LT1 in my situation is if I was looking for over 600hp all motor from something completely streetable or over 800rwhp from a blower or turbo. If your in that situation, great, but just like the original SBC the LT1 can still be of use for a lot of people. Besides, what can be easier than working with the motor that already came in your car?

With that said, if I can snap my fingers and my car magically became an LS platorm, i'd gladly take it. Im currently working on a new setup, a blower setup hoping for 600-650whp through a turbo 400. I've priced all different options out dozens of times and flat out it will cost me more to build an LS motor and drop in the car to make that kind of power. Sure, a built LS with the D1 will make more power, but I still can't afford it and my goal is 600-650whp, I don't need any more power. So why bother going LS? The guys looking at me like im crazy for ever touching an LT1 don't seem to get it though. Then again, those are the same guys who hated LT1's because they had one back in the day that had 3 opti's fail in a row because their dumb *** didn't change the vent harness.
