Interesting stuff... even lower compression with a set of smaller heads and same identical cam as im running now making 384rwhp. These AFRs with better flow numbers should be able to atleast match that if not make more power with added compression. Im torn do i sell it or keep it ive two different sides. Figure if i can bump the compression to 10.0:1 with a thinner gasket and like was said having 4.10s and a aluminum flywheel she will spin up fine. Im still no expect with this stuff just curious to see what other guys have to say about that dyno sheet with similar specs.

a better cam choice will definately help though. I'd sell the cam and shop for a used one better suited for your app. shouldn't cost you anything in the end if you play your cards right, maybe even make money on the deal.

I agree that there is a better cam out there. Expect to make peak power around 6000rpm with that setup.

Just to make clear, I had two different scenarios going on in my first post. First, the dyno was on the stock bottom end with 7 yr old ported LE2 heads and that cam. Compression was in the 10.5:1 ballpark. There will not be a huge difference witht e drop in CR to your 9.5:1, so I would expect similar results as far as peak power. I think any worries about low end will be erased by having 4.10 gears.

My current setup is a 383ci, stock heads, 218/230 114LSA cam with 9:1 CR. It's a boosted setup,m but I ran it for a summer N/A, and it was fine even with 3.42's.

Now, if you are looking for 400+rwhp ( and need to squeak every last hp out of the setup), then i agree with everyone else. You should then think about 11.-11.5:1 CR , Custom cam, and your heads are probably fine (but there is always better ones available).

Seeing as though 350rwhp is your goal, I think what you have purchased will get you there and more.

Thanks for clearing that up... if i change the cam to something on a 112 and smaller duration will i loose alot of power from this bigger duration turbo cam on a 114? Like i said im thinking about an CC503 or LT4 Hotcam so i can pass an etest without much messing around with tunning. Ive seen alot of builds with le2s and cc503 setups making in the 365-375rwhp range which what ive been thinkin about putting in alot even before i got this setup but thats also with normal compression vs 9.5 or 10:1.

Seems a little silly to me to be running very low (for a lt1) compression on a built engine. At least you an use 87.

I'm not too keen on emissions friendly stuff but I know the cc503 isn't a bad idea. personally though I would talk to Lloyd Elliot for setting you up with a custom cam, costs about $300 shipped, to take advantage best of your setup and emission needs.

I think your setup will be fine as well. It's not ideal, but that doesn't mean it won't work. AFR makes a good head so I'm not sure why the bench racing comment was made. Your compression is the limiting factor so you need to get a cam that will work with that. Probably something a little lower on the intake duration with more lift to take advantage of the heads.

Why not just put pistons in it like said above to take the compression back up to at least stock. Cam choice is critical.

I went from the cam that's in my sig. to a custom cam (smaller) from Lloyd and from a 10 bolt w/3.73's to a 12 bolt w/4.10's and only lost 10 rwhp. That means I have better drivability and probably didn't loose any HP considering the rear end change.

If you don't want to do pistons, then put some boost on that.

Why would Dynamic Compression Ratio be corrected for altitude?

Altitude reduces the density of the air charge. In effect, its just like lowering the compression ratio, both static and dynamic.

Ive had a few people say to just mill the heads to bump the compression up which can be done also. Stock is 55cc and was told 58cc should be enough without throwing off the intake so it will still line up without causing any issues.

check with AFR. I think I called them once about this on my 190's and there was not much that could be milled as I recall. However, you still will probably have to do some intake alignment work by machining the intake angles to sit down further and match everything up again. I had to on my setup because the block had been decked.

Yeh ill be using stock shortblock for now... so the turbo cam is for sure out of the question im seriously looking at picking LE's 223/230 .565 112 cam. Glorified CC503 thats been reworked which perfect.
