New build... Ported AFR 190s & Custom Grind Cam

Well im going to putting this setup together in the next little while when i get some time to work on her. Was going to go LS before i go mod crazy but a deal came up i couldnt refuse so im sticking with it! Here's what im going to be running:

AFR 190’s Ported (flow 299/211ish)-fully assembled
2.055/1.6 stainless valves
PAC 1518 springs
64cc

Custom Spec Comp Cam (230/236 .544/.555 114LSA)
Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 NSA
ARP Studs
Isky Guides
Comp Hardened Pushrods (Length TBD)
ARP Head Studs
New Timing Chain Set
New Lifters
30lb Injectors
Currently:

M6
Pacesetter Long Tubes
Catted Y pipe
Borla Catback w/E-Cutout
UMI Suspenson
4.10s

Should be running around 9.5:1 compression with the 64cc heads on my stock shortblock. The crazy ported heads with the cam should make enough jam even with the lower compression and save the shortblock more so then at 10.8:1 making more power. What you guys think of this setup and what it should put down and run?

It will be intersting to see what it runs. That is really low compression for a N/A LTx engine.

The cam is marginally too much duration and a rediculously wide LSA, the lack of compression coupled with the poorly spec'd cam will make lowend nonexistent.

I would let that "deal" pass and attempt to do things right. If you get all that for only $1000 the ONLY way it is worthwhile is to sell at a profit.

Yeh i probubly will run a thinner gasket to bump it up a little the cam was part of the deal so i still might change it in favour of a CC503 or something similar to keep it street friendly.

The low compression is still going to be a problem. Even with a thin gasket you are looking at maybe 10:1. That is what the b-body had stock with iron heads and 87 octane.

Bet those heads are better for bench racing than actual racing too.

Well no to ruin your rant but im using the heads so rather then discourage the build maybe a few recomendations would be more helpful. I have taken the cam into consideration the heads/cam came off a turbo motor but even then he ran it n/a and said it worked very well at 8.5:1 and is pushing me to keep the cam. That being said im still heavily looking into a smaller duration cam on a 112 that will pass etest which might be custom again or using a lt4 hotcam and cc503. I am NOT looking to make any crazy numbers i just want a stout heads/cam car for the street and make 350rwhp+ which i know is very attainable depsite the 9.5-10:1 compression.

You have to get your compression up or it's going to be a dog and no way that cam ran good (N/A) with 8.5:1 static compression.

You asked for input, and he gave it to you, and it was not a RANT in any way, shape or form. It was straight forward and factual. Obviously you are the one who is upset because everyone isn't raving about what a great setup you have. Sometimes its hard to face the facts.

In effect, your going to do what you want to do, no matter what anyone tells you, so this thread is pretty much pointless.

Just a little annoyed at the fact i just bought the setup and now everyone is saying that i should sell it off and that it will make poor power. I see his point i was just asking for some other ways i can still use what i have but i guess thats not going to happen which is *****. Im liking to go sell the cam to my buddy to work with the procharger setup i just sold him and sell or trade the heads for stock CC heads. Thanks for the input i guess ill get looking for a better setup.

well it wouldn't be a bad setup if you were either: a) were boosting it; or b) running different pistons

it's not that it's neccassarily a bad setup, just not a good setup for your car.

Try to understand that the longer that the valve stays open on the intake stroke the lower the dynamic compression will actually be, so you usually need a higher static compression to make up for the longer duration, not a lower one. So your setup goes the wrong direction. Now with a blower on there, you have extra compression, so that's why it works better with the low compression pistons in that case.

The setup will be fine. The power levels you are looking for will easily be attainable. I drove around my 96TA N/A with 9:1 CR and it was fine (eve with 3.42 gears).

I'd say with that combo and the fact that you have 4.10 gears, low end isn't going to be an issue at all.

I have some 190's that are almost as worked as yours and a bit larger cam (see sig). It is a good setup for me with no issues however, I would take the combo and put in new pistons to up the CR at least otherwise I agree with those above.
