New build. Need Suggestions

I've got about 1500 on parts to spend. I have a 94 lt-1 out of a formula. Has aluminum heads. (not sure if all lt-1s did) It needs a full rebuild. Cylinder 1 had a chunk taken out. The bore looks ok so I'm a sure a 30 over will clean it up. The head i'm a little worried about. It has some nice size chunks of metal imbedded in it.

I was thinking... have a shop clean it up. I would buy a rebuild from summit and the lt-4 hot cam. I was a little dissappointed with the 10.4:1 comp ratio from those kits. I was hoping for 11-11.5:1. I don't know. let me know what you guys think.

Stock LT1 CR is as high as you should try to run on pump gas with a stock cam. Obviously, more cam will allow (and need) a higher CR. The HOT cam is a little bigger, maybe you could go up to 10.8:1 or so by using a thinner head gasket or a little head milling. Don't go any higher.

If you are on a really tight budget, you need to find out how much the things you MUST do are going to cost first. Obviusly, if you need a head it's going to cost. You can find used LT1 heads for $2-300 last I looked. You don't say how many miles are on it, but if it's high mileage, don't forget a valve job.

Take the head to the machine shop and have them look at it. I've seen some pretty bad damage turn out to be repairable.

I actually have more money than that to fix any thing that may need to be done. 1500 is what I have left after shop work. Assuming head work, block work etc. I did not think about a valve job though that is a very good point.

Basicly do you think a hot cam with the 10.5ish comp ratio on a clean 355 is a good combo? or can you think of anything else I might want to run for 1500 or less? Streetability isn't really an issue. I have a Tremec 3550 that is going in to it so the tranny is up for the abuse and I won't need a new stall of course ;-)
