New best with crane 210/224

2.028 60' bogging (killed mph)
12.495@115.10 mph
Who said you have to run huge *** cams to pull any kind of mph or good times?

Good time, but those ported heads aren't hurting the situation either.

Fantastic!

Gald to see the baby cam putting down those numbers. My desire is
to get in the high 12s and it looks doable.

Re: New best with crane 210/224

All I did was take out the spare and jack. I also took off the muffler but if that did anything it probably wasn't noticable. The best 1/8th mph I had was with it on but I missed 4th. I ran 2 114.2-3mph passes and that run where I missed 4th then I took it off and ran 115.10 and 115.11 so It might have helped but I'm not sure. I like how it sounds with the muffler off and the bullet in the I-pipe, I might just leave it like that.

That's a REALLY nice trap speed. Looks like those heads are working well with that cam. How extensively were those heads worked??

Yes nice time. You have just confirmed what I and others have thought. You do not need a big cam to make HP. The most important things is you need good heads and then a good exhaust system and a good intake system. In my opinion the cam is the last thing on the list. You just need a decent cam like the Crane above or a ZZ9 to make good horsepower. Allen

Re: New best with crane 210/224

That's what I'm talk'in bout.

97SS, 210/224, 4:10s, 1.6RRs, 52MMTB UDs, PCMFORLESS, SLP shorties.

Now many will say that I would do better with LTs, but I can't use'em here in Oregon. And besides, I have pleanty of low-down torque with the baby cam and 4;10S and the Shorties will help in the middle and top end. I.e., I don't need the extra low end I'd probably get from the Lts. JMHO

Re: New best with crane 210/224

LTs help more across the board, but noticably in top end because of larger primaries.

Whats up with everyone today busting a load over teeny tiny cams? Why not just get a cam like a cc305? It will make more power at EVERY point in the powerband with a TQ curve as flat as the kitchen table. It is a TQ cam and has effectively zero overlap at .05 and has enough duration and lift to have *****.

I understand that some cams are too big for peoples likeings, like I run a 236/242 cam (its in a 383 though). If I let you drive it, you would NEVER go back. Not saying duration is everything, but there is a reason that stock cams are small.

There is a point where you can overcam a car. For example, my friend has a 99ss with a 25x/25x cam in his car and he makes absolutely no power under 4k rpm. It does scream and make sick power (its a dyno queen) but he cant seem to break into the 10s (hes got a forged 383 AFR LS1 putting down 500 rwhp).

It all boils down to what you want out of your engine. For me, I wanted it to lope like a SOB and pull hard from 2500-6500. Emmisions doesnt matter and I know tuning is gonna be hell.

I guess it just goes to show that it is easier to overcam a car than to undercam it....

Didnt mean to rain on anyone's parade, gongrats on the time. Different strokes for differnt folks.
