Question New Battery?

Looks like ill be replacing my battery tomorrow morning before i go on a 4 hour trip to visit my brother....

it has been dripping acid i belive for the past 2 weeks maybe...i saw a place where it had eatin through one of the zip ties that was holding some bundle of wires back...

also, when i arrived at school this morning, i was waiting for a buddy, who i carpool with to arrive and when he did i went ot start it up, and it was dead...this same thing happened to me last winter twice....it would run fine and then it would just die....both time i got a jump and i had to get a jump today...the battery reads fine and charged ...but then it just drops off....plus it is leakin....so i figure it is time to swap out...

any ideas on a good solid battery....should i just get the average swap to an autozone battery or should i look into somethin else? any ideas? also, when i replace the battery...will it mess with the computer at all? any precautions?

I'm not sure about which battery is best but you might want to make sure that it's not getting overcharged. Also when disconnecting it, disconnect the negative first, positive last. When installing, connect the positive first, negative last.

I also just replaced my 2nd battery because it was leaking out of the postive post. My first battery also leaked in the same spot, but it was still under warranty so it did not cost me anything to get it replaced. I'm tired of leaky batteries so this time I went with the Optima red top.

Make sure you replace your battery cable as you can pretty much kiss it goodbye. The dealer didn't replace my battery cable after they installed the new battery. The end of the cable melted itself to the new battery post. When I went to remove the battery cable I ended up with another leaky battery.

Dude if it started fine, then when you went to pick up your friend it was just dead, then you should check your connection. If it was leaking, the odds are your terminals are corroded other wise you would slowly notice it losing its charge. ie. harder and harder toturn over. Try cleaning the terminals with a mixture of baking soda and water.

I would. Cleaning off the gunk is all well and good.. but it doesn't exactly solve the problem.
