new 97 z28 a few electrical problems
i just bought a 1997 z28 m6 a few of the problems im having are the abs inop and asr off lights come on about 90 percent of the time im driving, ive noticed if i start the car they are off but as soon as i move the car at all they come on, they brakes are pretty worn, anyone have ideas, next my driver side brake light stays fully lit when the headlights/parking lights are on and when i hit the pedal they dim, next the coolant low light stays on, sometimes it flickers but most of the time it is on, the radiator and overflow are both full, im thinking bad sensor, next sometimes my left blinker wont work, the arrow on the dash just stays lit and doesnt blink, any help on any of this will be greatly appreciated
thank you

Re: new 97 z28 a few electrical problems
Normally you would think of lights being lit when they shouldn't be, as a short between circuits. But, our vehicles have a solid state instrument cluster. I would bet money you have a bad ground. There are 2 places to check first. The ground for the instrument cluster is located on the engine block above the starter. Be sure it is clean, shiney and tight.
The 2nd place to check is connector C210. It is a black 4 pin connector behind the right side kick panel. This connector puts the ground from the engine you just looked at, up to the instrument panel, the fuel pump relay, TRACTION CONTROL and a few others. I have helped a few others with this connector before. Usually all you have to do is unseat and reseat the connector to solve the problem. Try putting dielectric grease on the connector before you reseat it. It may help prevent future problems.
As far as the low coolant light, the sensors in our cars are always going bad. Disconnect the harness from the sensor and see if the light goes out. If so, you have a bad sensor. Cleaning it usually doesn't help. Just replace it.
Last, the ABS INOP light coming on right after you start rolling is a soft code and is almost always a wheel sensor. The third brake light will deactivate both ABS and cruise control BUT, that should be a hard code and stay lit all the time. Check and confirm your center brake light is working. Since you have traction control, you have 4 wheel sensors. It is best to scan the code and then monitor the sensors real time to see which if any, has a true problem.
BTW, check your grounds first, and if there is still a problem check some others like at the passenger fender and the frame. Notice the ground for the instrument panel is the same one for the traction control. You never know what type of operating problems a bad ground can cause.
PS, if you suspect a wheel sensor problem, don't just go buying new ones, try swapping it with a good one. Many times sensor problems are actually wire or connector problems. Saves money.

Re: new 97 z28 a few electrical problems
ok i figured out the abs/trac control problem the guy before me put in a brake light socket from a 95 camaro dunno why?? but when i took the bulb out everything works fine, any suggestions on where to find a replacement socket? i tried autozone-advance-orielys and no luck the next problem is ive found is my check engine light isnt working at all, whether the bulb is burned out or been removed i dont know yet but with a scan tool it shows the pcm has detected a random misfire, something with skip shift, something about egr being disconnected what can i do to check if the misfire is still present or if it is just showing an old code, but the main problem is that i just bought the car and i have to have a check engine light to pass emmisions to get tags on the car any ideas will help a lot thank you
