It sounds to me like an opti issue, or a coil problem. make sure all your wires are snug, one time i had a no start condition because the coil wire on the opti end had corroded so much it pushed it off the terminal, motor would try to fire but just couldnt seem to get there.

And just so you know if you downshift and engine brake your car, you WILL break hard parts in your tranny. Use the brakes to stop the car not the motor/trans.

I doubt it, but check the terminal down on the opti, pull the coil wire off down there and look in it and look in the plug boot, I had a ton of corrossion in there.

The funny part about it is, when i parked the car i had just been on about a 200 mile straight drive down the interstate. parked it went in and slept came out the next morning, motor turned over like crazy but no start. It was pretty baffling.

Besides its super easy just pull the coil wire off and look in there.

Trust nothing, check everything. Start with fuel pressure and fire since their simple. Does it have fire - from the coil, from a random plug wire. Let us know what you find. BTW - I blew my ICM out recently with a nasty backfire.

maybe you bent a ****load of pushrods from mechanically overrevving it

yes a burnt up wire would cause a backfire but if its not starting then it would have to be a couple wires that mysteriously burnt up. Check your fuel pressure because that is very easy to do and takes 2 minutes just to rule out your fuel system. To me it sounds like something ignition related. Did you plug it into the computer yet and check for any codes or for anything out of the usual?

When was the last time you changed your cap and rotor? You could be burning up ICM's if your car is running a little to hot espcially if your beating on it, shoebox has a good tech page to space out the ICM so it doesn't overheat. Quick and free mod.

I've used "power shifting" all my adult life. The mechanic that built my motor used the term and it sounded cool so i have used it since. I have manually shifted and instead of shifting to drive i have accidentially went back to 1st, thank god i was only driving average! The car felt like someone threw an anchor out the back of the car. I never had any problems that i noticed but it must have put a hell of a strain on the transmission and the engine. I don't do it much and i am very careful when i do.

after a full day spent i believe i finally found the problem...it's the alternator...my friend hooked his car up with jumper cables and revved his car up a bit...then i got in my car and started it up...it cranked up as long as i kept it revving but as soon as i let off it shut off...it was as if i was running off the power of his car...we figured it had have something to do with the battery so we checked the alternator, took it to a parts store and they tested it and said it wasnt getting enough voltage...and you know that when you turn the wheel on the alternator it's supposed to be complete silent...well it was squeaking badly when we spun it

Power shifting is done with a manual. It is when you keep your foot on the accelerator and shift very fast (so you don't over-rev). You can't do that on an auto. Anyone that says different is making up their own terms.
Even Ford people know what it is.

LMAO

I dont understand how "powershifting" () would make your alternator go bad

The kid down the street knows all about the so called "power shifting" an auto, he would take off in low then shift quickly to neutral then back to Drive and it would bark the tires except he went to reverse once WOT and he scattered trans parts all over the road, the drive shaft followed the trans parts down hit a manhole cover polevaulted the car over, broke his nose on the steering wheel and put a bow in the rearend, his father told me he will be an old man before he drives again. I dont think "powershifting" is what did it...it was just something waiting to happen but it happened at the same time i put it in 2nd gear..the alternator is bone stock and it has 97000 miles on it so you know..it just might be time to get a new one which is what im gonna do...it's seriously like it's just not getting enough power and i have a brand new battery in it...so it's got to be the alternator because it makes an awful squeaking sound when you turn the belt wheel on it and plus it was reading low voltage

Well go buy an alternator then and see if it fixes your problem.... You need to charge your battery up fully and then swap the alternator and see what happens.

I agree with some of the other guys and think you lost the rotor in your opti though... I think when you downshifted it put a load on the motor and the rotor came loose. Can you hear any scraping noises or anything coming from the distributor area?
