negative effects of bypassing heater core...
Well, I thought that my lower radiator hose was leaking, so I went ahead and replaced all the hoses. Upper and Lower then noticed that the return for the heater core was leaking right passed the bleed valve by the water pump. So I simply bypassed the core and have a hose running from the inlet to the outlet with a small home made bleed valve. Will I see any negative effects from bypassing it? Besides freezing my *** off in winter? Also what are the two hoses running from the water pump down the driver's side of the block down by the bottom? There's two for the heater, the upper/lower and then two more...Where do they go? Tranny? Everything seems fine anyway.... Thanks.

the only negative effect to bypassing the heater core is the heater core rusting out, be sure to flush all the crap out of it and blow air or compressed nitrogen through there to dry it out. don't cap the ends off to keep moisture trapped inside if it, maybe lightly stuff a little rag or something in the ends of the hose to keep crap from getting inside, but also allowing it to breath and get the moisture out.
the lines going down the driver's side of the block go to your oil cooler. the aluminum plate that sits above your oil filter circulates coolant through it to cool the oil down while the motor is running.
