NEED some serious oil experts here!!!

I need help with my oil.. Currently I use Mobil 1 10W30.. thats full synthetic, the car had 77K on the clock when I bought her, i dunno what oil the guy used, so was it ok to switch to synthetic? any way, thats the least of my concerns.. I have a synthetic oil leak. I tried using regular 10W30 motor oil and there was no leak.. I switched back to mobil1 of the same grade and the oil leak came back.. The only reason I was using regular motor oil was to break in the cam and stuff.. I always use synthetic but it causes a leak.. what would you guys do? Whats the real difference between Synthetic and Regular or semi synthetic? What is a good oil to use in a daily drivin heads/cam car thats drivin HARD.. I have looked around but dont know what to choose. I dont exactly know whats leaking either, i cant seem to track it down. its under the bottom of my car though.. NOT the manifold! trust me ..

Thanks

Nick

Do a search on the following message board and you'll find everything you could possibly want to know about oil:

The reason it would leak with synthetic and not regular is due to the flow qualities of the synthetic oil. The way the synthetic is made up it flows better since it is free of impurities which are in the conventional oil. The impurities are whats stopping the oil leak you have. I personally use synthetic oil, I have 2 small leaks but I'm not worried about them.

The solution is to find the leak, and fix it, if you want to still be using synthetic oil. If not, you may want to consider using non-synthetic oil of good quality, and do oil changes sooner. I said sooner, since you say you drive it hard. Synthetic oils has a much higher break-down point than regular oil.

As an alternative, you could also try out one of the high mileage oils, as they are better built oils than the conventionals, and slightly thicker too so you'll get more protection for hard driving too. Most of the 10w30 high mileage oils are almost 10w40s. Castrol or Pennzoil would be my choices in the high mileage oils, both offer good packages. Another good oil is Castrol's Syntec Blend 10w30, it's performed very well in the oil analysis results I've seen.

Possible you put the seal in wrong. Or a defective seal.
