Trying to get my car to pass inspection by next week. Ordered a O2 simulator, but the company still has not sent it so I am going to order from another company if they can overnite it. Passenger side cat. converter is fine, but the driver side is the one that is giving me the SES light. Since it is just that one should I only order one O2 sensor for that side? Are you throwing an O2 sensor code?

 

Yeah, I had both converters gutted, but had a new one put on the passenger side. The driver side converter is $518.00 and that is the one putting out the code. Everyone has said all I need is a O2 simulator to knock out the SES light, because if you have a SES light you cannot get your car inspected where I live.

 

I see, then yes, an O2 simulator is all you need.

 

Well I literally pray you are right and that I ordered the right one, because if not I am going to have to take my tags off my car, because of a bull crap law.

 

Hate to say this, but you sorta screwed yourself, it's not the law that bs it's hollowing out your cats then realising ohh ya wont pass smog now. Especially on OBD2 cars they are **** when it comes to that. Good luck...

 

I would agree with you, but I cant. I did this in 1997 and they just implemented this law three years ago.

 

That's if they even give a **** to tell. Since it's OBDII it's much easier to get away with as long as the car shows "ready" for all the called for sensors and no DTC's.
If you have recently disconnected your battery you may not pass and will have to run the car until the PCM has gone through enough drive cycles. The way you'll know is when they hook up their reader the sensors will come back as "not ready".

 

Actually it's been a federal offense to tamper with emissions equipment for a long time.
