need some help - just finished heads/cam and problems
I just finished doing a heads and cam swap on my 97 SS - have been driving it around for about 50miles and tonight decided to give it a full throttle run. Car had been running fine until after the full throttle run. Now when I come to a stop it wants to stall and the oil pressure gauge goes really low - if I rev the engine it comes back and while I am driving it is okay. I can hear the roller rockers ticking alot more than before. Engine temperature is fine. I upgraded to the 30# injectors and I am wondering if maybe the fuel pump is on its way out and if that is causing the stalling? I also re-used my vented opti-spark as it looked okay. It stalled on me twice but re-started right away - any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i hate to ask this but did u install the tune? i was helping a guy that told me he had a tune but neglected to tellme he hadnt installed it yet! anyway i am also investigating a similar problem after my installs. i havnt loaded my tune yet but am hopeful it fixes it when the rest of my cable gets here. at warm i am idling at 500 rpm with 10PSI oil pressure. what about you?
Re: need some help - just finished heads/cam and problems
I have the same problem, usually starts after hundred miles or so of driving since the last tune. My buddies cammed car also does this. Do a search and you will see a lot of guys cars do this with no real way to fix it. I drilled out the IAC passage a little bit and it helped some, but it still comes back after a while. I just recently adjusted my IAC follower values, so far its been running good, but I dont have that many miles on it.

Your oil pressures are so low because your RPMs are so low and the car is about to stall. At 500 rpm it is probably barely just stumbling along.

I just cant figure out why it comes back after a hundred miles or so.
Before i drilled it out, it did it all the time, after i drilled it out it just delayed it. I will get about a hundred miles after a new tune and then it will come back.

It wouldn't hurt to upgrade the fuel pump and the change the fuel filter. It's always good to have a steady fuel pressure but it may not completely solve the issue. I had a surging problem that was solved with a new pump, filter, and pressure regulator.

I'm not really sure what the issue is here I'm just trying to give you some things to try. As far as the low oil pressure goes, that is normal on the LT1's. Almost 0 PSI at idle.
Re: need some help - just finished heads/cam and problems
Put a scanner on the car and look at your IAC counts, this will tell you whats going on, if they are high, or maxed out, then your motor isnt getting enough air. You can try cracking the Throttle blades if you want instead of drilling out the IAC hole between the throttle blades.
And almost 0 PSI is not ok for a regular idle. If its idling low and barely stumbling along then i wouldnt worry about low oil pressure, but if you have a good idle and you have close to 0 pressure somethign is not right.
