Need scan help in Louisville
HELP! I am not from the Louisville area, but I am working up here for UPS. My LT1 Vega has a pretty strong "soft" miss-- from idle to 1200 RPM and runs rough at all speeds. The plug wires are less than two years old and heat-insulated, over the headers and I don't see any arcing. The #1 spark plug looks like it is fouled from running too rich, but all the rest look OK. All the injectors feel like they are pulsing, and I don't have a light. Other than replacing the plug, I'm not sure where to go next without getting the car scanned. Does anyone in the Louisville area know of a good shop who can scan a '95 PCM and doesn't mind working on a modified car? Appreciate any help!
Thanks,
Dave

There is a shop in Charlestown, IN (about 15 min from Louisville) called Quartermile Performance that specializes in late model Camaro/Corvettes. The owner's name is Rob Raymer. The number is 1-866-FAST LSI (327-8571). They are very knowledgable on all the late model model Camaro/Corvette engines. (Rob has had 2 cars in GM High-Tech Performance.)

I tried to get Quartermile Performance to scan the car last month. Called them to get directions and asked if they could do a scan for me, and the guy came back on and said "we don't do scans". I asked about what they do after they do a parts install, and they said they do installations but not scans. Pretty disappointing!

Have you tried Autozone to at least get it scanned. They do scans for free. I have Datamaster for OBD1 and could possibly scan it for you if we could find a good time/place to meet. I work in New Albany which is 10 min. from Louisville. Email me and I will give you my phone#.
Thanks for offering to help. I have a vibration that I thought was caused by a "soft" miss. I pulled the fuel rails, cleaned the injectors, replaced a spark plug and checked all my wires. The car doesn't have a miss (it does have the typical LT1 off-idle hesitation). The vibration is most noticable between 800 and 1200 RPM-- if I hold the accelerator at 1000 RPM, the whole cowl shakes! It does it whether I'm in park, neutral, or drive, moving or stopped. The reason I'm fairly sure it's not a miss is that when I'm coasting at 1000 RPM with my foot off the accelerator and no load on the engine the vibration is as bad as when I am on the gas at 1000 RPM. I think the vibration is something out of balance in the rotational assembly; and since the engine and balancer are stock, I'm pretty sure it's the torque converter or maybe the flexplate. As much as I would still like to have the car scanned, I don't want to drive the car much until I have it fixed. I guess what I really need now is a good independent transmission shop who will put a decent converter with a little more stall in it. Any ideas?
