Need quick help with Air Pump

I have a '97 trans am and the past couple days my car has had a little trouble starting, then last night while driving my car just died. It then would turnover but would start up so I left it alone for the night, then the next day it started right up and acted normal with no codes shown. Then I have it towed to dealer and he says my air pump harness and wires are cut up and the part is $250 and he also says i have to have it or else my car will not start cold. This is just crap and I should be able to just remove the air pump and everything should work out fine.

Yeah I went and picked it up and I talked to the service guy. He said the wires for the air pump was arking on the maf sensor so he just unplugged the harness and no code has shown up and it runs fine so I am not going to argue about it.
