The 'Y' body is separate, with a 2 1/8" thick damper (on an LT1). I do not know whether or not, the LT4 damper is a different thickness than the LT1, or for that matter, what the thickness of the second gen. LT1 #10128489 damper, or the second gen. LT4 #12551486 is. Any help/input?
This one has got everyone boggled. LT4Firehawk is going to hopefully get some pic.s of his setup from SLP. I'll have to take pics. of both the LT1 and the LT4 together so you can see the vast differances between the two. If you were to mount the LT4 Vette dampner with the weight out,it sits to deep and will hit the engine. If you flip it,it sticks to far out so the belts are out of aliment. I also called SLP today and left a message with an engineer there. Hopefully they too can shed some light on this. It would be a good one to put in the archives once we get it figured out for antone who does this in the future.

I'll let you know if they call me back and thanks for everyones help thus far!

Are you comparing the LT1 Camaro damper to the LT4? Then yes, big diff. Remember, 'F' body had no LT4 of it's own. What it uses, is from the vette. Let us know, if the LT4, when put in the Camaro, uses the 'F' (LT1) damper. Still don't know if the LT1 vette damper thickness is diff from the LT4 vette.

If you were to mount the LT4 Vette dampner with the weight out,it sits to deep and will hit the engine. If you flip it,it sticks to far out so the belts are out of aliment.

The thicker 'Y' body damper/balancer has the additional thickness in rear of the pulley section, when installed in the vette.

So, installed in SLP vehicles with a spacer?

Look what I found. After talking with some others, this is what has been sugested all around. I hope it fixes it. I got the last one they had for now But hopefully this will help someone else if they run into the problem. I'll keep you posted once I get it and install it.

LT1/LT4 Camaro specific fluid damper

BTW,I borrowed the tool(it a J-39046) and pulled the hub and spun it 90 degrees. That didn't work.

Did the CAT damper offset line up properly? Any update as to the correct assembly used in the SLP LT4 Camaro?

Hey sorry I didn't repost. I didn't get to it right away and the post had dropped back to like page 22 so I figured no one cared.

Anyways,YES the CAT dampener fixed the problem nicely. I'm very satisfied with the results. So if anyone experiances that problem you know where to go...CAT!

So did you find out what setup, or combo of parts SLP used on the LT4 F bodies? Rather go that route, in my situation.

Just went out to the garage to take a closer look at the LT4's balancer.

It is a corvette balancer mounted backwards. It appears to have a custom hub, machined from billet steel. It is not cast, and for reasons unknown, also has what appears to be a very small brass plug in the side of it.

There is also a round plate bolted to the front of the dampner (by the three bolts that attach it to the hub). Looks like aluminum, and I have no idea why it is there.

I called SLP several times and was told I needed to talk to an engineer to which they kept switching me into voice mail. No one ever returned my calls. From what INTMD8 is saying,it sounds like some sort of custom made or modified part that SLP did. The factory Vette and Camaro dampners have nothing like what INTMD8 described.

I searched through SLP's website and catalog, called thier sales reps.,called GM and got absolutely NO WHERE with any of them. No one seems to have documented this anywhere on any website, tech bull.,serv. manual,or otherwise.

If your not in a rush, you might want to follow my footsteps and keep hammering SLP's engineering dept. Just call thier regular # at 732-349-2109
