Angry Need Jet hot LT's install help!!

I took my car in to the shop and they guy called me and said that the headers dont fit and the only way to make them fit is to run a true dual system is this true? I called jet hot and they said i would have to go to a muffler shop and they could make a custom y pipe to fit the headers. Does anyone have pics of how they got around the y pipe problem? Or any hints as to what to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

partially correct...

it will not bolt upto the stock ypipe... but u can fabricate your own...

imo, if he said that, i wouldnt let him do the ypipe, cuz thatmeans he has never done one, and he might make you a very restrictive ypipe.. take it outta there, and find someone that has experience in making ypipes

my car is a driving testament that the shop doing your headers is feeding you A Y-pipe designed for the Hooker LT's is supposed to work with the Jet Hots. In reality, custom fabrication is still needed. The Y-pipe I bought from Summit required so much fabrication that it's really a custom job now. So, you might as well have a reputable muffler shop weld the whole deal. This is what I got:
I have a 3" Y-pipe located just in front of the intermediate cross brace behind the transmission (where the stock Y-pipe connected to the "cat back" part of the exhaust.) A local muffler shop then welded in two pieces of straight pipe and two arc-shaped pieces of pipe to connect the collectors and headers to the "Y".
The only snag in the whole process is that the collector on the driver's side sits very close to the trans X-member brace. I had to grind the lip off the end of the transmission brace where the bolts connect the brace to the car frame on the driver's side. I then had a flat spot about 1" deep and 4" long pressed into the collector tube that connects to the driver's side header. This gives an extra inch of clearance to miss the transmission X-brace. (Note: The mod was made to the collector pipe that bolts to the header, NOT the header itself ).
Anyhow, this ended up a bit long. The whole fabrication deal cost me $140. Having the whole deal made shouldn't be much over $200. Hope this helps.

should have bought some shorty headers, ceramic coated that came with a coated y pipe, maybe edelbrocks a lot cheaper, easier to install and you wouldn't lose any low end torque.you could have probobly found them for about 1/3 the price..... just kidding

Yes, I just had one made last week at a local exhaust shop. They started from scratch. They made me a y pipe that went to a 3" pipe that went over the axle. I provided a muffler. They charged $210. For a y-pipe only they wanted ~$100.
