Need Help X10!!!!!!

ok I had a thread on here about why i would be running lean only at idle and Injuneer helped me out with a vacuum leak at my pcv hose....

now the big problem.. my long term fuel trims were in the +20%(lean) and as soon as i fixed the vacuum leak my short terms went -47 (rich) and the car died....so i reset the computer and scanned it again and got my long terms at 0 and my short terms were between -3 and +4 .....40 miles later.

so i assumed i fixed the problem...wrong!!!
i went to smog since last time i was (lean) and failed (NO) so this time i failed (HO) and (CO) so bad that it placed me in the gross polluter category and the guy said he had to call the state on me because i failed so bad and my ses light wasn't on...i talked him out of it showing him my scanner as it still said i was close to perfect with short terms no higher than -11.8 and long terms at 0....the limit here in california is

HC = 50 mine was 251
CO = .48 mine was 3.42

the smog guys said that to fail that bad with no ses light that my computer has malfunctioned and it believes it is within the normal parameters but that i am really super rich.... so is the computer LYING (scanner) and saying that my fuel ratio is close to normal ? and lying that my o2 sensors are working properly when they are not? the car does feel pig rich..all other sensors are scanning in the normal ranges and no misfires.......

97 lt1 slpshorties/ k&n ... new o2s/pcv/iat/plugs/wires/swapped mafs and there are no vacuum leaks.....help before the state tries to fine me!

p.s. the car seems to run fine if i re-create the vacuum leak but the scanner then shows long terms back at +20 lean...and i have scanned other cars with this autoxray and it works perfect......what do you think?

What happens to the readings if you disconnect the O2s?

Re: Need Help X10!!!!!!

UPDATE!!!

got off work early today and just pulled the o2s

(NO SES LIGHT) came on and the car stayed in open loop mode and didn't give any long or short term info...the o2 readings were frozen at .460....ran the car for about ten minutes and it seemed to run the same...

is this normal for the ses light not to come on when you unplug them?

Re: Need Help X10!!!!!!

It usually takes somewhere between 20 and 45 minutes to register an O2 fault like being disconnected.

I would also be sure the ignition system is tuned up with wires and plugs and have the injectors professionally cleaned either on or off the rail.

Is the SES bulb still in your car? Does it come on when you turn the key on?

Re: Need Help X10!!!!!!

yes . everything works ...it came on and gave a code when i was super lean..but now no codes....

UPDATE AGAIN...
I caused the vaccum leak to test and scanned the car just now and it showed the usual . +25% (lean long terms) (it runs better here)!! remember it shows 0 on long terms and -3 to +4 on short term...(runs bad there)

I PULLED THE MAF WIRE AND "BAM" THE SHORT TERMS WHEN TO -29 (RICH) AND IF I COULD DESCRIBE WHAT CAT CONVERTERS SMELL LIKE ON FIRE IT WOULD BE THIS SMELL.........so i killed the car and reset the computer..

what does this mean?????

Re: Need Help X10!!!!!!

got the car running and it shows -15 short terms (both sides)(idle)
with MAF DISCONNECTED and NO VACUUM LEAKS.... my 02s(newer) are now reading lower between 150-550 .shouldn't they be on the higher side closer to 900 if my short terms are - rich?

any thoughts?
