I just did this a few weeks ago. The drivers side you need to remove the steering shaft and it should slide right in. And for the passenger side you will need to loosen up the motor mount so you can rock the engine over to give you the extra room. When I did mine we had the motor mounts out since I was replacing them anyway.

to remove the steering shaft, there are 2 bolts total...1 on the top part 1 on the bottom, i think they are both 10mm

don't take out the motor mount itself, simply take the cross bolt off and then use a jack to lift up the motor. Before you try that take off the valve covers...

check out this site, the guy has a really good write up on how to do it and everything that needs to get removed

I didnt have to remove my steering shaft on my drivers side. In fact that side was simple. We put it in from the bottom. We had the car jacked up high too.

Pass side we did disc motor mound and jack motor up just a little.

I have put both in by myself since then too. It can be done. Just be patient !

Good luck

Jason

On my Jet-Hot install I removed neither the steering shaft or jacked up the motor

Once the 2 bolts are removed there is a slot near the bolts at the ends of the shaft. Slide a flat head screw driver in it and expand it and it should slide off. You may want to try some WD-40 or some type of lubricant.

I didnt remove the steering linkage either. Car was about 2 ft high on jackstands. Driver's side took all of 15 seconds to slide up from the bottom and slip in primary went in from the top. I disconnected both motor mounts but the pass. side only should suffice. I had that side of the motor up at least 3.5-4" to get that header in. All in all, it was time consuming but relatively simple and straightforward.

I did not need to mess with the steering shaft either.

On the passenger side I did pull the long bolt out of the motor mount to jack the motor up.

Be patient and don't scratch that beautiful coating.

Take the top bolt out of the steering linkage and tap it off with a hammer.
Install your header and then tap it back on.
Passenger side should go in from the bottom without jacking up the motor but you must get the car high enough in the air.

WTF! I've been working on the driver's side for about 2 days, it will not go in no matter which way you try and get it in. Can't do it from the top, the bottom, ha ha, no way in hell can that thing fit in there.

WTF is going wrong, I'm ready to throw that ****ing thing through the damn windshield!

****!

Heres something for what its worth, I had my A4 out of the car when I installed my LTs so if you can take the tranny loose from the crossmember and try and tilt the engine/tranny combo forward, jack the end of the tranny up as far as it will go and maybe it will give you some room to get the header in.
I am just throwing this out there so it may or may not work.
I know my engine was tilted forward because the tranny was out and I had a real easy time getting the headers in from the bottom.
