need help VERY fast!!!!!

i changed my coolant, but foolishly accidentally poured too much into my coolant recovery tank and now coolant is leaking like hell out of it. i put a bucket underneath it though..

is there anyway that i can flush the coolant recovery line down a little bit?

Stick a piece of hose in it and syphon (sp?) some out. Actually I think the line that runs from the tank to the radiator goes into the bottom of the tank so you should be able to pull it off the radiator and drain some out that way...providing you can get the end lower than the tank.

nah that hose is at the top right under the cap. i don't know if you can drain it using the hose considering how tight it is in there. I wouldn't syphen with my mouth (antifreeze is bad for you). Buy a pump.

Re: need help VERY fast!!!!!

Take off the rad cap.

Take the cap off of the overflow bottle.

Get a clean tube and a rag.

Put the tube in the top of the overflow bottle and seal it by wrapping the rag around it. Wetting the rag will help make the seal.

Blow into the tube and coolant will be flushed into the radiator neck.

If needed you can completely empty the overflow this way, been there and done it.

I think his rad is full going by his other thread. Syphoning is the easy way to get it out of the reservoir. Don't worry about getting coolant in your mouth, try not to of course, but just don't swallow any.

I dont think this will pose a problem...when the car heats up and creates
enough pressure in the cooling system wont the reservoir tank just keep overflowing until it gets to its proper level?

Coolant is corrosive, its not a good idea to have it overflowing over everywhere, its best to stay within the factory limits that are stated on the plastic coolant reservoir dipstick.

Heres a tip, before doing anything with your cooling system, drain off enough to allow you to complete the work and save it in a clean bucket. When your finished put it all back, as much as you can get in the radiator and put the rest in the reservoir.

Not that I am missing something but wouldn't it just be as easy to, keep all caps on and open the valve at the bottom of the radiator, catch the fliud of course, and let the system suck it out of the overflow like it is designed to do?

It shouldn't because there was nothing open to suck air in just gravity draining out fluid. this is why you are not suposed to open the radiator cap and to finish topping off the coolant through the overflow.

Re: need help VERY fast!!!!!

But if you have everything closed and you start to drain the radiator is there
going to be pressure built up to where the reservoir tank will just begin to
drain into the radiator? when I did this months ago to do a coolant flush the reservoir never drained into the radiator and i am pretty sure its this way now and i have no overheating problems....

Re: need help VERY fast!!!!!

i drained the radiator, good stuff, refilled it, and this time i didn't fill it all the way to the top *recovery tank*

my car runs SWEET now after my throttle body bypass. it seems to run a little richer. i also took out the thick as MAF screen. i'll be getting a 160* thermostat and a CAI in about a week, along with a hooker cat back system.

thanks a ton guys.
