NEED HELP!!! valvetrain question

i have a brand new .060 fully forged lt1 with the canton oil pan and ported lt1 heads with all new valvetrain.....i finally got the car to start and idle for the first time lastnight. My question is, it seems like there isnt much oil in the valvetrain area.....other than the oil that was added... Does the car need to run for awhile?? the guage reads around 60 when idling but has never been up to temp. I have a stock dipstick and tube and it doesnt seem like its really reading that theres much oil in it.........but i know theres atleast 5.5 quarts...... Any suggestions would help

I'm sure someone else knows, however perhaps the Canton pan is deeper or shaped differently and the std. dip stick will not work. You also might check with the place you got the pan from. JMHO

There's enough material to overbore .060"? I didn't think you could do that much?

I run 5 qts in the pan, plus filter, with the 242t ,with stock dipstick you can only see a drop at the tip when you check it

When you first crank it, you should run it at 1500-2000 PRM for a bit to get oil up to the heads. It might take a minute or two.

The dipstick can be very hard to read with a Conton. I put 5.5 qts in my 242-T, and the dipstick would always be wet to the low mark on one side, but only wet at the tip on the other side. Low oil light would occasionally come on. I added another 1/2 qt, and light never went on, but dipstick showed exactly the same. Added another 1/2 quart, dipstick still only gets wet at the tip on the side that shows less. So, I don't think the dipstick is even touching the oil at 6.5 qts, IMO it's just getting wet from the oil in the tube getting smeared onto it. I don't trust the stock dipstick at all.

ya i just drained the oil, cut the filter open and all looked well..........def not enough oil in it though...this time ill make sure theres 6.5 to be safe and the cars never ran for more than a few seconds so hopefully when the oil heats up it goes into the valvetrain
