Need help with tires

I tried a search for this but came up with very little.

I was wondering what the widest tire I could fit on a 17 x 9.5 inch rim would be. BTW, this is for the rear rims. I was thinking 305/35/17's but have not been able to find any online.

(a) Any help finding what the widest tire a 17 x 9.5" rim would hold

and

(b) where to purchase them!

Thanks very much in advance,

Jay

You can run the 315's,but most people dont like the way they look on 9" rims.

I did a search on 17X9 and found this there was alot more too.17X9

Thanks funina91ss,

after reading that link I know that I definetely don't want to run 315's on my 9.5 inch rim. What about 295's? Does any tire manufacturer make these in a 295/35 (40?)/17 ?

If so, where?

thanks to all who replied so far, I appreciate the help!

The best way to research these questions is to go to Tire Rack and use the "search by size" option. Pick a tire size, and it will tell you if it is available, and list the ones available. Then for each tire listed, click on "specs" and it will give you a table of data including the manufacturer's recommended rim width. Not all manufacturers recommend the same size rims for the same size tire. The table will also have all other sizes made by that manufacturer in that model, so you can see easilly what fits on what rim.

You can always "fit" an oversize tire on a too small rim, and it may not appear to cause any problem, but you are not likely to "see" the damage from excessive flexing, excessive temperatures, etc. But then maybe that's just the way conservative "injuneers" approach things....

Thank you mister "Injuneer",

I typed in 295/35/17 and 295/40/17 and tirerack.com came up with nothing so I guess they don't make a tire in that size. I'll try calling a few places to be sure. But thanks for the link, I tried tirerack.com and tires.com to see of they made a tire in that size but I guess not. Thanks for everyone's help,

Jay
