Need help with rebuilding LT1 engine.
Need help with rebuilding LT1 engine.
I have been wanting for the last some time to rebuild my engine from an LT1 up to an LT4, I plan on rebuilding the entire engine so its all brand new. If I could get some inputs on what the best parts would be, what I all need, etc. I want to spend around $5,000 but if need be I can spend more. All help is much appreciated! Thanks

+1 unless your dead set on an lt4, go a different way such as a 383 or 355 like he said.
Keep in mind when your building, there is lots of small things that will sneak up on you. I had the same budget as you, and the budget is getting tight lol.
What Im building is a 383, forged internals, stock heads (for now) and a cam. With splayed 4bolt mains. Im sure you could easily build something of lesser quality for cheaper, and it still be a good running machine that is durable (and if you put money into heads, alot more power). Like I said, look at your other options though besides the lt4.

It cost me about 4 grand for everything minus the cam...brand new block, bored .030, eagle crank, forged pistons, 2 bolt mains, a little headwork, new pushrods, guideplates, springs, a little work on the intake, new lifters, etc.... Runs good (except for the now slipping transmission)

Why would you bore a brand new block?
