Need Help reading cam Card

I just bought the car and the cam card looks like this

Duration at .050 ----- 224 Intake 230 exhaust
Lobe Lift ------ .350 Intake .350 exhaust
Lobe Separation ------ 106 intake 114 exhaust

I have 2 questions...first what is my overal lobe separtaion...i know it is 106 intake and 114 exhaust...does that mean you meet in the middle at 110 or what??

Also if the lobe lift is the same that mean both valve will open the height correct

Re: Need Help reading cam Card

lobe lift is how high the lobes on the cam are. You have to multipy this by your rocker arm ratio to get the lift value you at the valves.

So basically, if your on stock rocker arms, you would be looking at .525" lift at the valves

If your running aftermarket 1.6 RR's your lift at the valve would be .560"

And, if by some retarded chance, you are running a cammed car with 1.7 RR's (Which would be retarded, hard to set up correctly, and a pain in the ***) you would be at .595" lift at the valves.

Re: Need Help reading cam Card

Are you sure you are reading it right? 106 and 114 sound like the lobe center line, which is completely different than the lobe separation angle.

What brand of cam is it? Most of the big cam co.s have informative web sites with a "how to" for their cam cards.

Rich

PS: if the ICL is 106 and the ECL is 114, I guess the LSA has to be ~110.

Re: Need Help reading cam Card

Call them, I assume they can help. But your assumption about LSA is correct as well as lift. The 106 and 114 degrees are the points at which you will get max valve lift on the intake and exhaust respectively. IOW, the intake and exhaust centerlines. These will change if you advance or retard the cam - as one goes up, the other goes down. So, the LSA stays the same (it's ground into the cam) but ICL and ECL change. That's why changing the cam timing effects piston-valve clearance.

I dont think LSA means as much as everyone says it does, there are lots of other factors that play into a cam other than just the lsa. ive got a narrower lsa on my cam as well for a blower and im anxious to see how it performs. My guy swears by it though

You will be fine with that LSA on a blower cam, so don't worry about it.

Remember most high output N/A cams are in the 104-108 LSA range. 110-112LSA aren't actually that bad as people seem on Blower cars.

Overlap is what we are taking into accout here, look at these two cam's.
218/224 112 LSA
224/236 114 LSA
Which cam is going to have More Overlap, answer the 224/236 regardless of its Wide 114 LSA. Something to think about. Many things take into accout of Overlap FWIW, Duration and LSA are some of the things I look at.
Listen to SStrokerAce he knows his stuff .

Then again I have seen cars run mid 9's in the 1/4 using a 01 Z06 cam which is a 204/211 on a 117.5 LSA spinning it to 6700 rpm. That cam there idles like stock, and doesn't have very much Overlap at all.

BTW Bret did you ever get my email??
