NEED HELP, Problem w/ speed density and cam
Okay, here's the story. I just got my motor totally reworked on my 93 Z. Well, the car drove alright on the way back to the house, I mean of course it didnt run perfect cause it hasnt been tuned yet, but after we got it back to the house, it wouldnt start back up. It tries to, but just cant. Some friends think it might just be the computer freaking out because of the new cam and stuff, but I only thought that would make it run like crap(at least until I got it tuned). I wouldnt think the computer freaking out would make it to where it wont even start. If anyone has any helpful information for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
No, I havent checked the coil yet. I will tonight when I check out the ignition module(cause I keep blowing them for some reason). When I try to start it. it will just crank mostly and every once inawhile actually try to fire up. Last night when I kept trying to start it the battery actually ended up going totally dead, so we jumped it, and it kept trying to start but just wouldnt.
Sounds like a problem that my purple car was having. Turned out the aftermarket chip had a bad sector and it dumped the tune out. Do you have a tune on yours, or have you messed with the PCM at all?
Naw, I havent messed with the PCM or had it tuned yet. I was going to wait for a tune until after I got atleast a few miles on the new motor. Do you think that getting it tuned might help it start?
Hey, I see you tried to PM me but my inbox was full. My bad. Anyway......
Yeah, if you're running the 230/236 XE cam, you definitely need to get the PCM tuned. If you check out the Speed Density LT1 Forum you can get ahold the guy that does the Speed Density tuning for PCMforless.com. That's his screen name too. That's a fairly large cam to be trying to run on the stock tune. Could be the whole of your problem, then again, may not be.

Just some info for you, I just finished building a 383 with the high lift version of the 230/236 cam and the car started and ran on stock programming. The only changes made to the files were the cylinder volume and the injector constant so I don't think the stock tuning is your problem.
