Exclamation Need Help Please, Z28 won't Crank at all.

Hey guys, haven't been on here in quite some time, but I really need any help I can get. Tried starting my 1994 Camaro z28 after it has sat for a few months and battery is brand new, lights come on and are strong, and all gauges read but oil (not sure if oil gauge starts to register a reading until after engine starts running or not). When i put the key in and turn there is no security light, but there is also no noises what so ever but the fuel pump coming on. I have not modded the car engine or electrically wise, i do have an aftermarket Audiovox Prestige APS 785 alarm system with remote start, it also has the ability to cut the starter off. The car alarm opens and closes the door locks, but the remote starter part is not working either, when it did it would beep and then the car would crank over. But now when i hit the remote start it does absolutely nothing.
Sorry for the long post but I need as much help as possible because ill be trying to get it started on my days off and the car is in upstate New York where I get no internet service at all, so I need to be as prepared as possible before I go up there.
Thank you for any help any one can give, in advance, i trully need the insight cause its driving me nuts and i want to put the car on the road. - Dan

Maybe you need a new starter?

See if you get 12v to the purple wire at the starter when the key is turned to START. You can also momentarily jumper between the purple wire terminal and the battery terminal on the starter to see if the starter works.

A starter schematic for your 1994 should be the same or similar to this.

Hey Shoebox, i wasnt able to test the 12 volt to the wire on the starter, but i was able to jump the starter. When i did (with a screwdriver) it sparked and i heard it whine but that was it. I really think that the no crank condition has to do with the audiovox alarm/remote start i had installed when i first got the car in 2004. It says it has a starter inhibit relay, but im so bad with electrical wiring i cannot find it. Ive pulled the whole dash down and i can find one relay that looks like it is tied into the vats (im guessing a vats bypass of some sort). Then when i pulled the center console out i found two more relays, im not sure if these are stock or not but they are connected to a black harness that they plug into. When i look at a wire going from the alarm module it ran into the harness of the relays behind the center console under the dash (directly under the radio, on the carpet level). Any ideas? I apologize for my newbie-ness but I miss this car so much lol and really want to get it started. Thanks in advance!

Im going to try and take pictures when im up there again. Its just so frustrating driving 150 miles to work on a car, by myself and not being able to get anything done.

i just remembered another thing , when i was up there i swapped out all the fuses (dash ones and underneath the hood), but when i have the key to "on" or accessory the windows on both sides do not operate. Maybe that is just coincidence? And just further backstory, last time the car ran i filled it up drove around for maybe 5 miles then parked it and fuel was constantly overflowing out the gas tank, Maybe i filled it up to much. It was parked on a slight hill horizontally also. Im going crazy here haha

When you jump across the starter terminals with a screwdriver, the starter should engage and crank. If it does not, the starter or solenoid is bad or there is not enough power to crank it.

It might make the same whine (if you could hear it and if you are getting 12v to the starter on the purple wire [that you have not verified]). A lot of times low voltage will make it give out a pitiful whine.

so i guess im pretty much down to 1)Starter is bad/needs to be replaced, 2) 12 volt line is bad, 3) alarm starter inhibit relay is bad. Thats what im thinking. As for the relays is there any one that i should look at that could cause power or activation to the starter to not happen? And if so what relay should i buy? I think theyre all 30 amp relays but is that all i ask for a 30 amp relay or is something specific? Once again I cant commend you enough ShoeBox for the timely great responses, you really are making this alot easier for me, since i have nobody that i can ask about this but you lol. Thanks!

-Dan

If the starter is suspect, pull it out and have it tested. Before you go suspecting relays and alarm stuff, verify that you are getting 12v to the purple wire at the starter when the key is turned to START. Also make sure the battery is charged and you don't have a low voltage problem.

Sorry for the late response, I replaced the battery last week and checked for correct voltage. Tommorow I should be heading up there to work on the car. I will take the reading of the voltage to the starter like you advised. My cousin who is a mechanic (albeit for mostly diesel tractor trailers) is going to be accompanying me. Two heads are better than one and I know he knows much more about electrical components than I do. Im fairly certain will be able to start it, with him and the advice you have supplied me with. But if not (crosses fingers thats not the case) ill take pictures of anything im uncertain of. But before I go is there anything else I should pay attention to if it in fact is not the starter/alarm. Possibly the ignition switch?
Thanks again for all the prompt and intuitive responses.

Hey so i just got back, and the Camaro is back on the road! All it was, was the starter!!! Well i just wanted to thank you Shoebox and Brokegenetic for all the help. I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me alot. Now its on to fixing a serious low rpm miss that pretty much stalls the car out if you mash the gas , and see why the tranny is slipping once again thank you very much
