Need help - Parts list for CC503 cam install
Getting a CC503 (Comp XE 224/230) cam for Xmas. Was wondering if you folks could help me put together a parts list...
I already have a brand new opti sitting here, and I have a somewhat new electric water pump on the car, so I have decided to go with a double roller timing set.
Here's what I'm thinking:
-Comp 7.2" hardened pushrods, guideplates
-Comp 7/16 Rocker studs
-Comp 1.6 Pro Magnum 7/16 NSA RR's
-Springs, locks retainers????? Which???
-Gasket set from Combo motorsports
-Cloyes double roller
-Comp stock replacement lifters
Am I forgetting anything? Which springs should I go with? I'm thinking Comp beehive springs w/10* locks and retainers.

I would say go with the GM guideplates. You can search on the reasons
why. You can search on lifters too. Lots of good things said about the
stock GM lifters. There is also a lot of support for the GM ED timing set,
just be sure your motor is stock or verify the .030" oiling holes, and use
the WP gear from the kit.
As for springs, etc., here is the standard beehive info I post every time:
Go with the 26918 beehive springs. The retainers, locks and shims will
depend on what you want to do. If you use the stock spring seats then
the 7* hardware will work. If you want to use the Comp spring seats then
the 10* hardware with +.050" locks works the best. This is assuming that
you have stock heads.
Comp Press Release
If you want to go with 7 degree hardwarde:
787-16 retainers
648-16 locks
stock or LT4 spring seats
If you want to go with 10 degree hardware (super locks):
795-16 steel retainers, or
794-16 titanium retainers
611-16 locks (standard), or
614-16 locks (+.050)
4705-16 spring seats
Using the 7 degree hardware and stock spring seats you
should end up with an installed height close to 1.78". With
10 degree hardware, 4705-16 spring seats, and the +.050
super locks you should see a 1.75" installed height.
Many have used the stock or LT4 spring seats with these
springs. I personally don't like the way the springs sit on the
spring seat. I have the 10 degree setup on mine.

With the double roller you have to go to an Electric WP. That or the GM LT4 ED timing set @ $200 from Jason Cromer. Its all you need really but its double what a double roller costs minus the Elec. WP.

from the picture, I did not like the fit, so I went with the hardware designed
for the spring. It's your call. The installed height will be higher with the stock
or LT4 seats and 7* hardware. If you want to go with Ti retainers then you
have to go 10*.

took so much time for me to research this info I want to share it and maybe
save someone some time. Maybe it's time to give it a rest. All you need is a
search and you have it.
