There's a special 02 sensor tool available at AutoZone/O'Reilly's/etc., for loan that some guys use. I always use just a 6 point box end wrench and never had to resort to any thread lubricate either. A 6 point doesn't slip nearly as easily as a 12 point socket or 12 point box end wrench.

What I found is it's the SHOCK that breaks the sensor's torque free, NOT a steady pull. I put the box end wrench on then hit the wrench with a hammer. Once the torque breaks free, it comes off easily.

A few months ago I changed one of the 02s on my son's 96 using that method and it was a piece of cake. Sorry, but I forgot what size box end wrench I used. Whichever one that fits tightly is the right one.

Hope this helps.

Jake

7/8! Autozone sells the socket(cut down the center for the wires) and that too makes it a snap!

Have 2 stiff drinks, get a good night's sleep, buy the O2 socket, a universal joint and a long extension. Remain calm, don't break the wires, connector or the sensor. You can do it, it's just not an easy or fun job. I usually get to it from the top with the car on ramps so I can stand up and it gives me a better angle to see it.
