Question Need help with new pacesetter!

Hello! I just install my new pacesetter headers(Quicktrip, Full Length, Steel, standard black painted finish)! When I started my engine after 30 sec the headers start smoking after 50 sec it was a lot of smoke! Is it normal? I mean may be its just the paint or dust (I have some dust on them) burning and i just have to wait a little bit? (It is not exhaust gas!)
_____

Did anybody know how to pass the emision test w/o catalytic converters? No EGR and Air Pump and 2 O2 ???

Thanks!!!

Re: Need help with new pacesetter!

Mostly the smoke is from the oil and grease on your hands that got on the headers when installing them. I have the Armor coated version and they smoked for a solid a 4 minutes. Just make sure you don't have any spark plug wires laying up against a header primary too. Enjoy the new power!

Yes the paint they send them in is for shipping purposes only. You should have painted them with high-temp paint or got the coated to prevent rusting. But yeah thats just the paint burning off. Is perfectly normal.

Re: Need help with new pacesetter!

My headers smoked for about 15 minutes when I first started it up. Then again, they were caked with grease, oil, and blood.

Re: Need help with new pacesetter!

What can happen ? Can i just use Header Wrap? And i find some in the Summit catalog! There is: NOTE: Wrap voids most header makers warranties. WHY? Its bad for the headers??? And if using coating, what kind? Summit recommend using DEI Silicone Coating together with wrap! They have the Exhaust Wrap Kit for Small Chevy(wrap,HT Silicone Coating and locking ties)! So, what i should use?
Wrap? Wrap + Coating? Just Coating? Or Just paint?
Or may be nothing???

Thanks!!!

I just wrapped mine. It adds a nice white trash appeal under my hood. I'm pretty sure the paint is the cause of the smoke.

You can always buy a good, durable header paint from Summit and just repaint them. Or you can spend a little dough and get them coated by Jet-Hot.

Re: Need help with new pacesetter!

If you get the headers uncoated (with the black paint) can you put the Summit Header Paint on top of that or do you have to strip them down first?

Re: Need help with new pacesetter!

Mine were coated and smoked on the first drives a bit... I will never use uncoated again after my previous ones.
