Need help! Mounting LT1 on stand!

Ok, I have an LT1 block and a stand for it(the type with the four arms) There are six holes in the back of the block, and i'm going to put a bolt in the top two and bottom. My problem is, I have a bolt that goes through, but not all the way, and i'm affraid i'll strip the holes. What are these holes used for when the engine is in the car?

Those holes are used to bolt the bellhousing to the block.

It seems as though the 3/8 is just hair too big, and the. this blows because i have this thing on the back of my truck, and i was just going to bolt it up to the stand and roll it off.....

I can get the bolt into and to the back of the top holes, but not past the back of the holes...if tha tmakes sense. i'm wondering if the coating on the block(it's been rebuilt and looks to be painted) is just preventing it from going any further. I would just like to get the bolts in as far as I can so I know none of them will break from toop much preasure.

How far through the hole do the bellhousing bolts go???

I would get some new bolts.
I bought an engine cradle stand.
The type you put an engine on just to store the engine away.
I tired to use the bolts that came with with it but they wer not threading
into the block very easy.
I got new bolts at the hardware store and know problem.
Try that before you do anything else.

Good luck,

Chris.

how much thread is enough to have in the block?
how long are the bolts that go through the bellhousing into the block?

There should be approx 3/4 to 1 inch of thread in the block. Run a thread chaser thru those holes. Don't use a tap. The chaser is all that is needed. In order to get mine on the stand that was what was needed.
While I do not have the bolts in front of me, I would say close to 1 1/4 to
1 1/2 lg.

i don't think the bolts are supposed to come out the other side, i had to cut off a couple of threads off my bolts with a dremel. 3 inch were too short and 3 1/2 were too long. i ended up with 3 1/4 inch bolts after cutting them.

I spaced mine using washers, worked great.
