need help with first do-it-yourself project
I was attempting to change mt starter today using a haynes manual. It seemed simple enough, problem is that i could not reach the starter. can anyone tell me the best way to get to the starter. what do I have to disconnect.

I got this link from Shoebox's website. You may want to look at his site for some good tips... I hope he doesn't mind me sending you this link...

First, disconnect your battery!!
Second, raise the car on safety stands and don't rely on the hydraulic jack or the spare tire jack... if you're broke, go to Harbor Freight or a like store for some good deals. I typically rest the car on the safety stands and use the hydraulic under tension.
Look at the diagram. Typically there are only two bolts that hold it on plus the wiring harness.
Since you are replacing it, it would be a good time to grab a "heat sleeve" to protect the starter.
Also, clean the electric terminal contacts and put some tune-up dielectric grease on the ends to prevent corrosion.
Good luck...
