LT1 blues

well im honeslty not sure whats wrong with my car at this point, i know this for sure, i was driving it one day, i thought i smelled coolant, then the car just shut off, had it towed to midas, they ran the car and found that the ac compressor had locked up, while they were running it the belt snapped off, i started it up to get it onto the tow truck because the compressor was warranteed and there was a horrible miss at idle, it even loped slightly like it had a mild cam, any thoughts?

well you should be able to run the ca without the belt, as the timing set is what keeps everything right, so I don't think the the ac has anything to do with it loping at idle, unless the broken belt caused the battery to drain low from no alternator which might cause the engine to chug from loss of volts. how well does the car start and idle, there might be some internal damage or maybe the timing chain has slipped. I had an old Buick that would stumble and chug like it had a cam from a slipped chain, if I reved it real high it would slip until it either stalled out or ran normal after it was aligned right. I have no idea how the engine didn't blow valves through the pistons, but it turned out to be the problem mentioned. Thats all I can think of, and it may be way off, it sounds like you will have to go over everything to find out what is going on.

Belt breaks, snaps and hits spark plug wire either cutting it or pulling it out of the opti. Look for the simple, cheaper stuff first, maybe you'll get lucky.
