I have been clearancing my damn timing cover for my combinationmotorsports double roller chain for two days,and I finally got it to the point where it doesnt rub at all when it is fully tightened down, but this is while using two timing cover gaskets. Can I run it like this?? It seems it would be fine, and not change much excpt push out the seals a very smallamount, and the dowel on my new cam is slightly longer than my old one anyways. Do you think I willbe ok??

I would just run a bead of rtv on each side of the gasket, that should give you the clearancing needed.

 

You better take the time now and do it right.

For one the dowl pin should not exceed the stock one. To long of one will damaged the opti by binding up the bearing. The opti has to be flush on the timing cover, if the pin is to long you will never get the opti to be flush.

As for making clearance for the timing cover, what are you using to grind on the timing cover? I nice high speed air sander did mine in minutes.

 

If you want to do it once, do it right.

If you like to take it apart to fix small but crucial mistakes, do it wrong and put down the crack pipe haha.

Just kidding, but seriously, the double roller should not be rubbing much in the first place. What are you using to grind the cover down??? If you have a dremel the coarse sanding attachments work very well. The highest part of the chain is the rivots that hold the cam sprocket together. Put a shallow dab of assembly lube on the tip of the rivots, bolt on the cover and see if it rubs. Then sand more down etc etc etc.

 

Better to clearance the cover, IMO.

 

I ended up just clearancing a little more and using one gasket and sealant. I could almost barely still hear a tiny rub after that, but it might just be in my head. The opti went on fine, and I checked with clay to make sure it wasnt bottoming out in the hole. Now to put the hub on
