I'm about to purchase a 93 z28 this week. From what the owner has said about the car is that it does need a crank position sensor... but has a mis idle or a mis sound to it as it runs after starting. Is the two problems related or does the answer lay somewhere else. What else should I look for? I'm a ford to chevy converter so I'm not to familar with the lt1 engines so this may be my first. BTW its 93z, 114k miles with the A4 tranny. Also he mentioned the gas gauge bounces around from full to empty and levels out, is that a common thing and a easy fix?

 

The 93s which were OBD-I didn't come with crankshaft position sensors. You may want to find out what the symptoms of the car for him to believe that is the problem. As for the fuel gauge acting sporadic, it is not uncommon for the fuel level sensor to go bad or possibly a wiring connection issue.
