Angry Need help. Car is backfiring and running poorly. Check Engine Light on also.

My car has 59,000 miles on it. This past Friday, I went on a road trip and as soon as I left town, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on and was flashing for the whole trip. My car seems to have a loss of power and it is backfiring a lot. It backfires at idle too.

The car was running excellent before the trip. Could it be my Fuel injectors?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated because I would like to get this fixed before I have to travel back home.

Took it to Auto Zone today. The guy said its not throwing any codes but the SES light is still flashing and the backfiring is horrible.

He said it could be the vacuum hoses.

Thanks for the help.

I'm gonna try and change the fuel filter today if it will quit raining. Hopefully this will fix it.

Well, I just changed the fuel filter and nothing has changed. I changed the spark plugs and wires about 8,000 miles ago, so I dont think its them.

I need some help guys. Please. Anymore suggestions?

Thanks

Could this be the dreaded OptiSatan on its way out? I would check your wires good first off, one of them may have been burnt by exhaust manifolds/headers, or one may have even not been on all the way, I've heard the wires on the opti are a little tricky to get on good. If one wasn't all the way seated maybe it's slipped off enough to cause a miss.

Hope this helps a little ---J.Bird

Well, finally figured out what the problem was. You guys were right, it was the wires. We took a closer look at the wires and one of them was almost burnt in half back behind the header where it was real hard to see. Replaced it, and my car is running great again Thanks for all the help guys.
