need help with car
Well, I have figured out my car is not b lown up (atleast not yet). here's what happened:
I put long tube headers on. Two days later, I was driving, and the car started riding rough. I started to go home, and it got rougher and rougher. Then, the oil pressure guage went all the way down (it went down to the little **** that it rests on when the car is off, not to like 5 psi). I stopped, turned the car off, and had it towed home. Next day I hooked up a mechanical oil pressure guage, and it read 0 oil pressure. So, I figured I had spun a bearing. Well, I got the oil pan off a few days ago, and all the bearings looked OK. I replaced the oil pump, figureing that may have been the reason for the 0 oil pressure. Put it in, started the car, and it still had no oil pressure. Also, Me and my friends noticed the #6 cylinder was not firing (the header primary comming off it was not hot, unlike the others). Anyways, I woke up this morning and took off the passenger side valve cover, and saw that the rocker for the exhaust port on that cylinder had come off its spring. I put it back on, started the car, and noticed no oil was squirting me in the face (which really means no oil pressure). Right now I am stumped. I do not thing I bent that pushrod, because the exhaust tube for that cylinder is not getting hot like all the others. Also, I still do not know what to do about the oil pressure.
Anyone have any ideas??

Re: need help with car
No one has ANY clue???? The car has 0 oil pressure. the guage doesnt even go up to 0 when I start the car, it just stays on the ****. DOES NOT BUDGE. New oil pump put on yesterday. I searched many many times, I have found not one person with this problem in the hundreds of thousands of posts on this message board.
Well I have an Idea.
Have you checked the oil pump drive?

You would have to take off the intake.
That's what drives the oil pump off the cam.
The gear on it might be chewed up.
Check out the Shoebox's web page.

I hope that helps.

Re: need help with car
The oil pump driveshaft that runs from the cam may have broken. Either that or the little roll pin that holds the gear that meshes with the cam gear on the shaft may have broken, letting the gear spin free of the shaft. If the oil pump is good, and there's oil in the pan, it may take a while but it should prime.

took the intake manifold off.... unbolted the oil pump drive, pulled it out, and you were dead on. It was chewed to hell. My cam did a good number on that gear on the oil pump drive. I just hope the gear on the cam that drives it isnt also chewed up.
thanks
Glad that I could help you out.
From what I understand form older 350's is when you use a roller cam
which is stock for our LT1 the cam gear is hard and the distributor
gear is soft.
And it's the distributor that conects to the oil pump in the old 350's.
we don't have a distributor running off there any more we have only our oil pump now.
So you sould be ok.
Just make dam sure that you take any metal shaving out!
And check that gear out good!
And you should be fine.

So the only thing I could think of is the pump drive shaft.
If it has one I still have not cracked open my old LT1 yet.
It probably does.
When you pull the pump down you will see it there is a plastic collar that breaks you will have to get a aftermarket one that had a metal collar.
I don't know how make it for the LT1's I know milodon makes them for the old 350's
