NEED HELP.Cam spline that drives water pump stripped!!!
My friends water pump stopped working, and after taking it off, the cam drive sprocket was stripped. can you replace it? or do you have to get a new cam shaft?
Good Luck!! I just replaced mine because it snapped. First you need to find who has the water pump drive shaft part number 10219554 in stock since it is back ordered by GM and it's around 70.00. Then you have to remove the entire front of the timing chain and take the camshaft sprocket off with the timing chain. Then you have to find a way to pop the old shaft out I used a large closed end wrench connecting it to the shaft and using a prybar balanced with the throttle body to pull it out with a LOT of force. Then put the new one in by using the bolts to snug it i.e start to tighten one bolt then switch to the other one and keep it up until it pops in place. Then put everything back together and TAKE YOUR TIME GETTING THE COVER OFF!!! I ripped the oil pan seal and now it is like chasing a demon because I have serious oil leak issues.. It should only take you about 3 hours tops if you continue to work and take no breaks.. Once again GOOD LUCK!!

GM LIST: $67.41
OUR PRICE: $38.42
If you do a search on this board, you can find Jason Cromer's number and order from him. It will be a little bit cheaper.
If the end is stripped, you will also need the little connecting piece.
I'm sure you'll be able to find a used one much cheaper. Many guys who convert to electric waterpumps remove them.
In fact, a while ago, I've seen one of these on ebay for like $5 and no bids...

Here's a thought. Instead of replacing the drive gear, why don't you pick up a Mezier or CSI electric pump and just plug the hole for the drive. Free up some HP, make car run cooler, and not have the distince possibility of the water pump taking a **** on your opti. Just a thought.
