Need help from 58mm TB guys.

Hey guys in my quest to find out why my heads and cam car is making low horsepower numbers i've decided to add some Comp R lifters to see if they will help my situation, but while i have my intake off for the lifters i would like to port the intake for 58mm TB size so later when i have the money to add a 58mm TB it will be ported the right size and i won't have to port it on the car or pull the intake again. The only problem is i'm pulling my intake to do the lifters this weekend. I was wondering could anyone maybe make a scan of a 58MM tb gasket so maybe i could print it out so i could have a templet to go off of. If not does anyone have the diameter of a 58mm blade in inches. If so i could probably make that work. any help guys.

Re: Need help from 58mm TB guys.

You need to know the BRAND of throttle body you intend on buying before doing the cutting. The reason is that they are not all drilled on center as compared to the stock holes! I have a AS&M and Holley. The Holley IS drilled on center as compared to the stocker but the AS&M is not. So, if you use a scan of the AS&M 58mm gasket then buy the Holley 58mm tb, the holes won't line up

I do have a scan of the AS&M gasket if you think you might want one of those (don't remember the name of the file and it isn't linked on my page. Will have to wait til I get home to give you the link).

Ahh... the search button is a wonderful tool. I didn't have to even go home

This is for the AS&M ONLY.

Brent if i could have your scan i would appreciate it. My email is cj428mach@yahoo.com. I have no idea what brand of TB i would get. I've heard lots of bad things about holleys and a few bad things about BBK's. I assume it wouldn't hurt if i took it out alittle bigger than than they needed to be. I see people that offer ported intakes that will fit 58mm TB's so i assume they must just oversize the holes right? For the most part making the holes too big couldn't hurt right? I wouldn't hog them out. Brent is there any reason you went with an AS&M. I assume they must have excellent quality considering they are $100 dollars more than most other brands.

lol nm brent you posted right before i did. Thanks Alot i'll keep that in mind. If i can't find anything else i'll just port it for that TB and then i'll be forced to buy an AS&M later.

It really isn't about one being bigger than the other... they are both the same size but they are offset. So, when you put your throttle body on, you'll have a lip either on the inside or outside. Now, if you want to grind off the lip with the intake on the car, that's fine and the excess that you ground off (on the other side) won't hurt anything.

Most likely not. They are probably drilled to 58mm on center of the 48mm holes. So, throttle bodies like the AS&M won't line up correctly but Holley (and I think BBK) will.

At the time I went with the AS&M because there was a group purchase where 25 of us got in on it. I believe I paid $325 or somewhere around there But, I must say from what I've read since getting mine (like in 97) my first choice would be AS&M. They have the least problems of all them IMO. I have a Holley as well and only had minor issues with mine (cruise connector was too large) but others have had problems with excessive blade gap and sticking. The BBK whistles like a supecharger and isn't nearly as pretty as the AS&M or Holley

by looking at that gasket brent i assume i'm suppose to cut out the center divider completely. Is that correct? i dont want to ruin my intake but if i have to do any porting i would rather do it off the car.

No, don't need to cut the center out completely unless you are doing a monoblade. The AS&M gasket just looks like that but what you can do is visualize each side being a round circle and only cut out the circle part and you'll be good to go!

Hey Brent I just brought a 58 mm Holley from a board member and I'm waiting for it to arrive, did Holley ever fix those problems?
If not do you know who could check the tb out and fix/modify it as necessary for me? Thanks dcyz28@aol.com

My Holley fit just fine, and all those issues have supposedly been resolved. All I needed to do was slot the TPS to achieve proper voltage. Plus, it's pretty. I wish my intake ducts were clear so I could see those shiny red butterflies.

The valve covers are polished aluminum smoothies from eBay. There's always a few sets available.

The wires are Taylor OTVC with Made-For-You looms. I couldn't tell you if Pro-Magnums would interfere with these rockers since I am running the Crane Gold rockers.
