Even if you get it out w/o a cherry picker I think you will need one to put the new motor back in. Sorry I dont have any ideas on how to get it out.

Do a search here for engine removal. There is an in-depth write up on dropping it out the bottom.

We just recently did that to a friend's car.

You can have the engine and transmission out in about 3 hours if you have a couple of guys working hard.

Basically, drain coolant, disconnect the water hoses from the waterpump. Pull wiring harness from PCM back through the firewall (it's three connectors in the passenger side footwell), unbolt the power steering reservoir and place on engine. Lay PCM and wiring harness on top of engine. Empty A/C system and disconnect lines from a/c compressor (I think), disconnect front brake lines from ABS module. Remove steering shaft. Disconnect the driveshaft from the rear end, remove the torque arm. If manual, make sure shifter will drop out bottom cleanly, if auto, disconnect shifter linkage. Remove top bolts that hold upper shock mounts. Unbolt swaybay if needed.

Put jack under k-member to hold it up, unbolt the 6 large bolts that hold it to the front end of the car. Lower k-member. Lift car to clear the engine.

This is an EXTREMELY shortened version. I've left a lot of little stuff that I can't remember out. I found the write up by searching this forum for engine removal, good luck!

Dont you still need a cherry picker to lift up the body of the car?? I know a friend who used that method and we still had to use a cherry picker.

You might be able to jack up the body with a jack on each side of the car, right behind the front wheels. Im not sure if it will get you high enough, probably not, but its an idea to work with at least

We used a combination of a floor jack that gives a nice high lift, and 20 solid 4" concrete blocks. We didn't have a cherry picker either and it wasn't that bad really. We only used a single floor jack too, just lifted it four inches on each side at a time.

Thanks for the replys....

Right now i have the heads and intake off for more clearance when dropping the engine. So i wont have to raise the car as high. Cuz i wasnt sure if my craftsman jack would lift the car high enough. I suppose i just have to get the car high enouhg to clear the tires when rolling it out.

Yeah i have lots of the stuff drained or disconnected already. I am looking at the engine removal write ups but they had cherry pickers in them.

Thanks all i really needed to hear is that i can get the engine back in without a hoist. I didnt want to drop it and find out i couldnt get it back in.

Get some concrete blocks (preferrably solid ones), they should be cheap. Lay them on the floor (2 x 2) and put your jack on top of them to get the car higher. Just be careful and pay attention to what the car and the jack are doing while lifting. The jack will want to roll toward the underside of the car, so make sure to set the blocks far enough under to give the jack room to move a little.

You have to get the car high enough to get not just the wheels out but also the front shocks. They are taller than the tires.

When we got the motor down and the car up high enough, there was I think 20-30 inches between the floor and the jack pads behind the front wheel wells.

Putting the back end on ramps gives you a head start too.
