Need to diagnose misfire, important.
Need to diagnose misfire, important.
I am having a misfire and I don't know where it is coming from. Everytime i post i get the check plugs and wires. I have new tr55s at .050 and taylor spiro pro wires that i have inspected all top to bottom. The ses light comes and goes every day or so. Sometimes i wont get it for a week. It seems to happen a lot when i slam the brakes hard, idle for a while, or go over a bump but everything is snug. Can anyone help me diagnose this instead of saying check the plugs and wires?
It may be the opti and i wouldnt have a problem chaning it if it needs to be changed but i dont want to shell out 300$ to replace it if it still has some life in it.

Yes, random misfire, what can I do about it or to make sure the opti or somehting else is shot. I have never been given a good way to do this.
Re: Need to diagnose misfire, important.
A scanner with "enhanced parameters" can examine the misfire count by individual cylinder. That might point you to the most likely cylinder(s) with problems.
The number of possible causes are huge.... faulty spark due to plugs, wires, coil IC Module, Opti, corroded terminals, poor electrical grounds.... faulty fuel due to sticking, weak or leaking injectors, unstable fuel pressure regulator, vacuum leaks, or false O2 sensor feedback.... incorrect valve adjustment, burned valves, weak compression on a cylinder, etc.
