Need advice on valve spring kit and lifters.

Hey guys I was going to order the xe224/230 cam kit from comp. motorsports. But I found a guy that might be able get me all this stuff cheaper. But I need to know what valve spring kit I should go with (springs, retainer, locks etc). I heard crane had valve springs that fit stock heads without machining. If you happen to know the price and part number that would be great too.

I also need to know what lifters to get. Is there anything out there cheaper than $200. All the lifters i have seen are $200 or more. Could you guys recommmend which ones to use and how much they are and what the part number is if you know it.

thanks
Tom

The Crane spring kit "supposedly" fits the stock heads but they expect you to use flat hardened steel shims for seats There are some workarounds but the best thing going right now, IMO, is the CMotorsports spring kit. Much cheaper than the Cranes, they locate on the heads much better, and they are much lighter... all of this while having just a bit better specs for moderate XE cams.

Unless your lifters are acting up there is no need to replace them. Roller lifters don't have any real wear to speak of and most of them are all made in the same factory to the same specs. Some have slight differences like the retainers used (ex. CompCams 'R' lifters).

Buttercup,
Thanks for the help. I will look into the spring kit from comb. motorsports. Do you have any idea what they charge for it?

thanks
Tom
