Thinking of buying pullies, But i have heard bad things about them. Do you think it's a good idea to buy them? can it hurt the car at all? Is it worth it?

Thanks

It doesnt hurt the car, if anything it prolongs the life of the accessories. It is questionably worth the money. The best pulley out there is the ASP pulley because it is an integrated damper pulley, but it cost more than the normal "piggyback" style pulley. It will net about 2 peak horespower and 5 torque, a little more over the entire curve (thats the "piggyback" style pulleys). If you have money to spend then its not a bad idea. Hope that helped.

I had the add on asp on my lt1..it seemed to add vibration to the car at certain revs.I have the ls1 damper one on my ls1 and it seems fine.I would spend the extra and buy the lt1 damper pulley from asp not the cheapo add on.

There seem to be a couple to chose from. For the most part you guys say i should get the ASP pullies, so i will get those. Now which ones do i get?

-ASP LT-1 2 pulley Kit 34% Crank, 15% alt
-ASP LT-1 pulley 23% Crank, 15% Alt ''Nitride''

the difference between the two is about $70, do you think it comes with a new belt?

I had nothing but problems when I added that crap. I turned around and sold them as fast as I installed them. Car would not stay charged, and I could never listen to the stereo w/o the car running w/o the battery going dead. As soon as I switched back to stock I had no more problems. Not to mention there was no noticable gains. Worst mod you could ever make IMO.

PULLIES =

As long as you are buying a 2 pulley kit which will keep the alternator charging you will have no problems. I dont know what kit the guy above had or if he had an aftermarket stereo, but with the correct underdrive pulley on the alternator you will be just fine. I dont believe those pulley kits come with the belt, but they will tell you which belt you need to buy. Should be able to buy it at any local parts store for cheap.

The 34% may give you charging problems at idle if you have an automatic (idle lower than manual). Dont know if yours is auto or manual? You cant go wrong with the 24%, should be absolutely no charging issues and some power increase.

Don't get them. Why would you want your AC not to work a good, and your charging system to suffer? All for 2 HP peak??? $60/Peak HP is kinda expensive in my book.

Lt1s dont gain as much power from underdrive pullys because the water pump is driven off the cam not belt like the older 350s
If I were to get a pully I would get one with a better damper also, I beleve fluid damper and ATI (not the supercharger company) make upgraded dampers which also are smaller than stock

I had them on my car and didn't notice a difference so I sold them.

They did keep my battery in the red though.

I have the ASP integrated 23% underdrive pulley/damper, with stock alternator pulley (ASP part # 945100; # 945103 includes the underdrive pulley). It does not come with a belt; you can get one at AutoZone.

Charges just a little bit less (maybe 1-3 tenths of a V). Pulls noticeably better in 2nd, revs up a bit quicker. Seems smoother revving too.

I'd recommend the combo pulley, not the add-on, for the reasons people listed above.

It looks as for the power increase to the cost of them it isn't worth it. I'll just save my money

Thanks guys.

After doing some research, I decided to go with the ASP harmonic/alternator combo, because the stock one sucks. I just hit 70,000 miles and the stock harmonic balancer is coming apart. I say get rid of it all, and get something better. But for my money, the ASP was the better buy.
